I know everybody that knew Dr. Jenny Gauld loved her and misses her.

Her obituary ran in today's Birmingham News (though it has been more than a month since she passed away). It included information about a memorial service for her this coming Saturday (April 29) at her church in Pell City.

She was one of the shining jewels of UAB. I never would have become a Blazer had it not been for her.

The memorial service for Dr Gauld was a wonderful event. Speakers included, among others, some UAB folks: Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith, current President of Birmingham Southern and formerly at UAB on the President's Council, and Cindy Holmes, who was Ginny's Executive Assistant during her tenure as Vice President at UAB. Also saw Rose Scripta and her husband as well as the just-retired UAB Provost, Dr Linda Lucas.

I'm glad you could attend. I wish I could have. Two of my mentors, and two of UAB's best -- Dr. Gauld and Dail Mullins -- have both died in the past year.
