I like what his coaches are saying about him. I believe he has more potential Payton. He could end up one of the best Mike linebackers we've had.

The natural talent and speed are there, just needs to put it all together.
Middle linebacker was my second biggest concern heading into 2017. While Pugh is a little light at 218lbs, if he can play at a high level this defense should be really good. It's going to be fast as hell.

Boomer started off light. Finished his NIU career between 230-35. Looking forward to seeing him run sideline to sideline this season. That position is so important to the defense. Hopefully our D- line is good enough to allow him room to make plays.

Boomer was every bit of 240 245 by the time he was done. I would think Pugh is a bit heavier than 220 but summer is when allot of good bulk comes on.

Middle linebacker is something we've always seemed to have a good player. Hard to top Mays then going back with Schiller, McCarthy etc. that kid from Florida (that got shot at stabbed) was an absolute stud. No doubt he'll continue that role.

I don't think Boomer was ever light tbh.

Corcoran and Sanders are looking good at end. If the D tackles do their thing our defense could be awesome this fall.

Not at all, if anything he was bigger than most of LBs we bring in out of high school

Because when Boomer came in he was slotted at long snapper, then we had Brian Mayer as long snapper and that allowed Boomer to move to MLB.
I'll never forget two hits that he made to preserve wins for NIU. The first tackle was at West Point when he was a Freshman or Sophomore. It was a shootout and West Point was on offense for the last possession. We couldn't seem to stop their run game until Boomer comes in and stops their RB on 4th down. And of course we all remember his senior year when he laid the boom on the Western Michigan RB to end their drive and preserve an NIU win.

Oh yeah, Boomer was clutch! He also had a huge interception late in the game at Toledo that stopped their drive in the red zone and sealed the victory. Wish he would have caught on in the pros. He had a great career at NIU
