What a character and our AD fell for it. Oh, my mistake, our AD and "his committee" bought into this same line of crap hook line and sinker. I guess there will be many more to bite on Wither's spiel before he's done with the profession.
Lol... The same, "committee" chose Mike Houston.. So far The AD is a solid 2-1 on FB coaches. Not bad.

Was that all the same people in 2014 and in 2016?

I was about to say the same thing.
On the other side, Texas State decided to pay the guy a LOT of money, so who's the foolish one?

Bash the admin on men's basketball hires all you want, but they've actually done a good job with football hires. And women's basketball hires. And softball hires. And baseball hires. The list goes on and on.
Basically they've done a damn good job except in one category. It's a biggie, but you can't say that they've been a failure, because they haven't.

Except for men's basketball. I'd like to think of it as our kryptonite at this point.

I have no idea. I was just tying it back to the previous post. Either way, 2 NC winners out of 3 hires under JB's tenure.
Youch.... he is looking worn down....

Let me get this straight... you don't like the last bunch, and the new bunch is less talented- way to trash the past and the future..jeez...

And those twitter comments are ruthless - they are onto him...
He is just a horrible guy with the press. Narcissistic tendencies galore.
Who cares? Let it go. The guy is gone and JMU is better off with the current coaching staff.

You have to wonder are the "committee" and AD etc. total buffoons when it comes to Men's Basketball or is that just a tougher job to find someone who can succeed at the level that the other sports can given relative facilities, relative competition (more D1 schools) and the lack of success/winning culture over the last 20 years? Sure I think $ plays into it but I also think finding a MBB coach that can success at JMU is more difficult than finding a football coach who can succeed, a woman's softball coach, a woman's basketball coach etc.

I didn't say a word about EW's coaching. I was talking about the constant lines of BS he tosses around. Have you ever, or did you ever, have a conversation with EW? He's so full of crap, it makes me want to throw-up just listening to him.

When he and I had a little one on one he tried to convince me that he's a great defensive mind. I didn't bite for even a second. His defensive coaching skills, or lack thereof, have been the reason he's constantly had to move on.

There is no way I would have ever hired the man after an interview, and I don't see how our AD could have recommended him either. Just listen to this interview brought to us on this thread, "I didn't like the players on last years team." Just the way he says it is enough to make me roll my eyes in disbelief.

He says stupid stuff like that all the time, yet he keeps making it through the interview process. I have no doubt that JB was thinking he was bringing in another "Lefty". A coach who's been with some big-time programs yet a little down on luck, so JB overlooked the crap being fed in person. He simply doesn't come across as genuine and anybody with half a brain can see it.
If I were a moderator I'd shut down every single thread about EW. It's just silly that anyone still talk about that guy around here.
I bet his returning players are really motivated to play for him. What a clown

Sounds like something a big government guy would wish for. It simply amazes me that the title of a thread clearly defines what the initiator is about to post, yet it intrigues people, who prefer to erase the subject from their memory, to take a look just the same. Sounds like the definition of addiction to something defined as not being good for some but might be entertaining for others.

I make a very simple rule for myself, if the brief subject line hasn't lured me to read by using a brief abstract statement, and I can make a reasonable assumption the topic will not be of interest, then I simply stay away from the thread.

Do you also think Vegas should be shut down? You probably believe the manufacture and sale of guns should be shut down. Clearly you cannot control yourself so you want others to control you due to a lack of self discipline.

Apologies to you in advance, I simply wanted to demonstrate that every topic is not for all. Pick and choose where you'd like to participate and allow others to do the same. I do like a few rules, especially limiting profanity.
^^ He probably just wants what a lot of other people want; to take the high road and let it go. Withers was a good shot of juice for us to get going, but we're better off. Moving on.
You think his talk of the players is bad you should have had to work for him! I am so happy we have Coach Houston and staff now. He is a not only a great person but a great coach, last year showed that . He took a team that Withers left high and dry and won a National Championship with them. JMU football had the talent in 2015 they just had bad coaches, now they have both and it shows 100%.
I like to relate EW as the "bad decision ex-girlfriend". She was attractive, but a compulsive liar. You put up with her crap and are happy when things are over. She thinks she broke your heart, but the reality is that she did you a favor. And then you start to see her make the same mistakes with the new guy and you can't help but watch and be entertained that you aren't THAT guy anymore.

I would love to hear what he said about his team last year. I thought he said pretty positive things about them last year (no surprise). I thought the team was extremely young last year. Did he have that much turnover?
If his team is going to be worse than last year... yikes.
Idk, that video makes it sound worse than it actually was.

I feel no ill will towards Withers. In the end, turned out to be a great hire for what we needed, turns out Houston is an even better one.

After reading that article it shows again how bad a defensive coach he is. Offense won the spring game. HMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure you are correct. But when there is time to reflect on the past, what is the harm. Like many posters, I believe EW did some good for JMU, it's simply his attitude I never cared for and still don't. He is the definition of a narcissist.
