So set up an annual rivalry game with whoever you like...App, stAte, South Alabama. If we're all under the same umbrella you can schedule whoever you want.

6 divisional games, 2 super-divisional games, then your 4 OOC. If you want, do what the ACC does and schedule an in conference out of divison game as an OOC...so ULL, USM, whoever. Scheduling agreements should be uh-LOT easier if we're all under the same roof.

Really not that hard.

Question: What does App State, AState, GA So, Louisiana, La Tech, Marshall, So Miss, Troy and WKU have in common.

The answer is:. AppMan's dream CUSA / Sunbelt Merger Football Conference.

Love it. I would include USA, and maybe the MUTS. But otherwise that is a great conference

Give us a few years of FBS play and we will be on your list. 04-cheers

Don't get me wrong I think you are a good add and add a lot to the conference. When the stadium expansion is complete and you can average over 15K then it'll be fine. So for me take AppMan's dream conference and add USA, MUTS, and Coastal and that would be a great all around athletic conference (good to great in all the big 3 sports). I would also hope that all these schools add men's soccer.

That gives a solid 12 team conference. A little big for the CFP money, but I feel that all those schools bring something to the table and are in a relatively tight footprint. Definitely something GS fans would get behind and a lot schools we would travel to very well.

This is obviously a football centric idea and nine is the perfect number. Four home - four away conference games and four OOC games.

True, but I do like the possibility of divisions and a CCG. With 9 teams there is no point of a CCG. I also like the travel options those other teams bring (Mobile, Myrtle Beach, and Nashville). I was also thinking of other sports in this scenario.

Can someone put this conference on a map to show what it would look like? With team helmets would be a nice touch.

I like our line up, even GaSt at this point. I understand TxSt want to be in a conference with other Teaxs schools, but I think everyone else is good, geographically.

It's our responsibility to build the SBC, not save CUSA. We need to just concentrate on ourselves, not worry about the foundation of their house.

I think USA is the only remaining charter member of the SBC. So, that means the rest of the SBC also defected from other conferences.
What schools do you consider to be "defectors?"

The responsibility of each president and AD is to do what is best for their school, not what's in the best interest of a particular conference.

True.
"I do not see any benefit for geographic reorganization other than reduced travel costs, and those aren't going to be all that substantial. If you want a bus league, go back to FCS. Let's build a competitive conference."

Exactly, all the people saying how FAU and FIU are on an island ignore that Georgia Southern is the same distance from FAU as it is from South Alabama or louisiana Lafayette and closer than Arkansas State. If Georgia Southern joined CUSA it would in the middle between FAU and Marshall.

I'm all for a more "competitive" conference. Of course that means different things to different fans/schools. My preferred conference doesn't include FAU or FIU. But if I had to pick one it would be FAU. I'm more interested in schools that will fire up our fan base and create more rivals and a great gameday atmosphere. I would also like to see schools that bring good baseball and basketball to the conference (GS wouldn't bring much in basketball, but we do have a solid baseball program). I'd just much rather play WKU, Marshall, Appy, ULL, USM, stAte, GSU, USA, MTSU, and ODU. I think FAU has a decent program, but FIU would not interest me at all.

I am pretty sure FAU and FIU will always be a package deal unfortunately. They really mess up realignment for everyone.
"I think FAU has a decent program, but FIU would not interest me at all."

FAU will be playing GS regardless of whether we are in the same conference or not. Statesboro to Boca is 6 1/2 hour bus ride. We already have a home and home scheduled for 2020 and 2021.

As for FIU I dont think we want to be playing each other either. ;-)
What would happen if every one of the SBC schools absolutely refused to merge with CUSA, would they kick us out of the G5?
(04-20-2017 09:40 PM)southernwolf Wrote: [ -> ]What would happen if every one of the SBC schools absolutely refused to merge with CUSA, would they kick us out of the G5?

Very little chance that every one of the SBC schools would ever refuse to merge. Even if some kind of informal agreement were made between the SBC schools, history has proven that in the end, schools do what's best for themselves, not a conference. Besides, some SBC schools are very hopeful that a merger of some sort happens.

I think you would (and should) see ULL fully support a move to a conference that included USM, Rice, and La Tech. There's just too much that works for the Cajuns in a scenario like that for them to ever pass up an opportunity to make it happen. There are more examples where the same kind of scenario would be true for particular schools, though admittedly, Ark St may not be one of those schools.
