This is in the recruiting thread, but it is huge news, so I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention. He is a NATIONAL recruit, best TE in the area, and really coming on strong in the early camp circuits.

Had offers from:
Tennessee, Oregon, Georgia, Wisconsin, Auburn, Iowa, Louisville, NC State, Kentucky, Pitt, TCU, and West Virginia among others

247 (Free Content) Article outlining the commitment (great write up by Chad, Shane, and co.):

My favorite part:

Quote:"Big time prospects in Cincinnati are in for the Bearcats, just as much as we are. Knowing that I will be coming is only going to bring more talent to the Bearcats. We are going after top players across the nation. I am committing so early so I can make it the best class in the nation and I can help recruit and build this class. We are going to change it, we are going to get these local kids. Our mark will be left. Cincinnati will be a powerhouse in the next couple years, mark my words.”
Such a huge pickup. He's blown up big-time over the last few months. I had a feeling that was going to happen after the junior season he had. These are national programs after him. Tennessee, Auburn, Oregon, etc...and they were actively after him. Not like a lot of these kids who have claimed offers that are a year or two old where the schools are no longer pursuing. This has to help with the other locals too. I just love the last two pickups.
Great. It is smart to stay in area in case you don't make NFL you meet a lot of local power people such as Lindner, Sheakley who can help in a job after college.

I wonder if you would develop as many useable connections in say, Ames IA?

My god. The quotes in that article nearly brought me to tears. That is the exact mentality I've been waiting for a high level Cincy prospect to have for years.

What about Freddie Lenix? Wasn't he a stud recruit?
My list is from a tool on the 247 site that ranks the composite score of all time UC recruits dating back to 2002.
It remains to be seen what kind of gameday coach Fickell is, but in all the other areas that count -- recruiting, building a coaching staff, building a culture, endearing yourself to the community... he is knocking it out of the ballpark.
I thought the Tubby Lubby Gang said local and regional was overrated?

Great pickup. This is how ya do it, son.

I think Lenix was only a 3*, but that Glenville team was loaded as all hell...I still remember that 4×200 team with him and Ginn.
Local news is now running with it as well

Best quote in there

Quote:"I am not going to mention names but I know other guys are coming," Whyle said.

Keep 'em coming!!

He was a 4* but dropped to a 3* after struggling throughout the week at the Army All-American Bowl in early January about a month before he signed.

He was a 4* and was downgraded to a 3* when he decomitted from Tennessee and committed to UC. Your right, he did have all those offers though. Actually, I believe Luke Fickell recruited him at Ohio State.

Marcus beat me to it. I wasn't aware of his performance at the Army game, that makes sense.
