What happened to the NYC/No. NJ and Philly/So. NJ areas? Back in the day, Maryland (Lefty) used to recruit those areas pretty heavily.

Also, I thought Chicago, Detroit and Indiana were stocked with quality basketball players.

1) The DMV/Baltimore area has always been good, as has North Carolina.

2) Raw #'s (vs. %'s) is a better metric to use to see an area's overall recruiting prowess. Many of those states are still great (i.e. NC is barely behind NY) and probably ahead of Illinois, but NY and Illinois are driven by NYC and Chicago respectively.

3) Your underlying point that basketball power is shifting is true. It's spreading from a northeast + Chicago game to a national game - especially as the nation's population shifts south and west.
