Certainly looks like a great hire on paper. I would have been a little more worried if they were able to hire LeVelle Moton due to the fact that he has won big at the DI (low major) level. Balado has all the right "bloodlines" and will likely do very well. But you never know for sure how an assistant will due when he moves to the head coach position. Always a little bit of a crapshoot, but most former Pitino assistants have done very well as head coaches.
Reportedly LeVelle Moton turned ASU down, but we'll probably never know for sure. Might be happy to stay where he is and wait from an offer in North Carolina or, at least, close by.

Moton has done a great job at NC Central. Might have turned ASU down to see how UNCW pans out. He will get a bigger job at some point.
Good point. He will move up eventually, and maybe very soon. Also, may not have been happy that ASU chose McCasland over him, last year, and he is now in even a stronger position after another NCAA tourney appearance. Haven't heard anything yet, but hard to believe UNC-Wilmington doesn't take a long look at him.

We would have given Balado the job last year. Moahjir basically admitted it today. We turned him down because of the NCAA investigation into the escort thing. We wanted to see how that came out first.

Once it became clear this year that he had nothing to do with it, the door was opened to make a hire.

Interesting. Seems like it all worked out in the end. Balado now comes in with the program in better shape than it was if he took it over last year. What I like about hiring an assistant from a program like Louisville, is that he surely has relationships with some recruits that may have been just short of making the cut at Louisville. Just has to convince them that ASU is the place for them. A transfer, who is not quite good enough to get quality playing time at Louisville, is also a possibility.
