CBS crew were gushing tonight about the job Underwood did this season with average talent on the roster when he took over
We didn't have a vacancy when OSU hired him. Pastner was still here. Had we fired Pastner as soon as the season ended and immediately gone after Underwood - I'd bet chances would have been pretty good.

Yep, Underwood was gone before we started looking. We probably could have had more in a coach for less money compared to TS. But the Tubby Smith hire was a reaction to the JP hire & coaching tenure. Lots of hires like that...a reaction to the previous hire, either for continuity or contrast purposes rather than just hiring the best candidate.

Of course, if we'd fired him then, we would have needed to find the extra $10.6 million or so for his buyout.

Yeah and overall it was a big deal financially for Opie to leave on his own. See what happens from here I guess.
Left OSU after one season for Illinois

Doubling his salary. Tubby back to B12?

Wow. So he would be leaving Memphis for Illini? How demoralizing would that be? (UTK fans might could help us understand.)
Tubbys not going anywhere

He's still making less than Tubby.

Underwood was making about a mil at OkSt, Illinois tripled his salary, but that's about or maybe a little less than what Tubby makes.

Some good hires ... Underwood will be an upgrade at Illinois and NC State hired a guy who I think can't miss in Kevin Keatts.

Define 'anywhere'.
