Well, with VCU having top 50 (43 and 35) recruiting classes in the last two, and a favorable conference, it would more likely be about money and visibility than a "bail"

I would argue VCU is a better known basketball program right now than LSU. People know who LSU is, but because of football.
We seem to have a good record against LSU.

Let's see if FecesU's "Russian Roulette" style of basketball coaches comes up blank this time.

meanwhile, we're kind of stuck with JJ for life. :(

LSU gets a different level of recruits than he will ever see at VCU. They have all the resources to be a top 10 program.
VCU to LSU is a MAJOR UPGRADE ......PISTOL PETE etc. etc. SHAQ etc. etc.
Its really not that big

They haven't been that relevant since the Early 90's outside of 05-06 (which no one remembers because of Mason's run)

They had the consensus #1 player in the country last year (Simmons) and couldn't make the NIT (they may have turned down a bid)
The only thing that matters is that Wade reportedly thinks it is...

The rumor mill says that Wade had shown lots of interest in the job, even going so far as to say he had a pair of Top 100 recruits he felt he could lure to LSU in the spring signing period. VCU’s recruiting class is currently ranked 35th in the country by 247 Sports, with three of four recruits ranked in the Top 200 (#97, #150 and #154). Wade’s first VCU recruiting class was ranked 43rd, with the 45th-ranked player in the country heading the class. He’s known as an outstanding recruiter.

The amount of past success is irrelevant. The fact they landed Simmons, among other early picks recently, proves it can be a great program if they land a coach who can do more than just recruit. Their resources comparatively are boundless.

They didn't "land" Simmons. One of their coaches was his godfather or something.

Ok. They got him in their jersey. You ever think VCU will land the #1 player? What about the 10 other players they've had drafted since 2005? Through all their mediocrity, they've managed to recruit a good amount of NBA talent. If they land someone who can coach, they can be very good.
Wade to LSU lol
And the odd trend of VCU coaches going southwest to football schools continues.

They'll probably find a good coach — they seem to have a knack for that — but they were also bringing in a pretty good recruiting class, and when Shaka left, Wade went 0-for-3 in convincing the incoming class to stay, so who knows.
I'd bet on 2 of them to go with him. And certainly wouldn't be surprised if Jenkins transferred out as well.
I think they stagger a bit after this one.

It's certainly possible. They lose a good core of players and there's a lot of uncertainty. Their best chance at maintaining continuity is by getting Mike Rhoades, but recruiting is so coach-centric that it's hard to imagine not losing at least part of the incoming class.
Wouldn't be surprised to see both rhoades and Evans jump ship for Richmond.

Lsu further guarantees their perpetual mediocrity with this hire.
If the real reason Evans went to Rice was "the degree from Rice" why would he go to FecesU now? What has Rhoades accomplished at Rice to warrant a HC job at FecesU? Oh yea his 5th place finish in the #24 conference in the country. Even FecesU isn't that stupid. I for one hope they do hire Rhoades.
They are in trouble ifnthey lose that recruiting class. They withstood Shaka bc they had good returning players. This year their seniors are Tillman and Williams. If Im recruiting against VCU, Im using the lack of stability against them.

Do they go with another former assistant; Rhodes, Jones, Christian, Brannen or try to find best coach overall? I do think Christian might be the best choice and a local guy to boot that may not jump ship as soon as an offer comes.

Wouldn't Evans have to sit out a year? I highly doubt he wants to do that.
