Not sure where to stick this so it gets its own thread...

Kevin Johnson is on a 4-24 streak from 3 over the last 6 games. UC really needs him to break out of that funk if they are going to have any chance at making it past this weekend.

dang...I knew he was struggling but not that bad. Yup, we need him to step up and start drilling them.

He was shooting over 40% in conference play, so hopefully he can get back on track.
I hope KJ has a monster Tourney, but truth be told we don't need that. We do need Evans, Caupain, Gary and KW to have huge efforts though. If KJ or Cumberland step up big time that's just icing on the cake.
He was not very good in the title game, but then again most of the team wasn't either.

But when he was out there on offense it was UC playing 4 on 5. Defenses need to worry about defending everyone. If not it makes it that much easier to double team on the inside like SMU did.
When he's making shots like he did most of conference play KJ is incredibly valuable for this team because of his defense. When he struggles like he has recently it's difficult to keep him on the floor. Hopefully getting 5 days off will have him fresh and ready to go.
Bulldog would be mad, Y dunt u hav pitcher of JJ.

This. If he is going to play, he has to be a threat to score.

JJ didn't play at all against SMU and that was our worst offensive performance of the season....Just sayin.

I think KJ is a major key to any run in the tourney. If he can be competent from 3 (40-ish%) he spreads the floor and will create open shots for others. Without that, it's 4 on 5 and allows more double teams in the post. He's a senior, I hope he takes this last opportunity to get hot and go out with a bang.

lol this is just wrong...
but true
In the 7 games since Cumberland's 1-game suspension:

Cumberland: 25.9 MPG, 11.3 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 1.6 APG, 0.3 BPG, 1.1 SPG, .491 FG, .240 3PFG,
Johnson: 27.7 MPG, 4.6 PPG, 2.0 RPG, 1.4 APG, 0.0 BPG, 0.9 SPG, .227 FG, .194 3PFG

Remind me again why KJ is still getting more minutes than Cumberland? Cronin really needs to get over his infatuation with seniors and play the better player.

A senior in better shape? I don't know. To me they are both playing about what I'd expect them to play on a team with limited depth. Troy and Evans need to play 35 minutes in the tournament... these guys will spell them and play some with them to make up the difference (and play together in some small ball lineups with Troy and Evans).

I am comfortable with the minutes Cumberland has been getting. Johnson was playing great up until recently. Now it's the tournament and Mick can't ride him if he really struggles, but I think keeping him prominently in the rotation was the right thing.

I absolutely believe KJ should be in the rotation, and that he should even continue starting... but I think he needs to go to Cumberland earlier and more often.
Also, for the love of god, I don't want to see Quadri Moore on the floor again this season unless it's in a blowout or both Clark and Washington are in foul trouble. Brooks is better and I have liked what I have seen when we go with 4 guards. Jenifer got a DNP in against SMU and Quadri played 9 minutes... just makes no sense to me unless Jenifer was either being punished or ill/injured.
The only thing that Cumberland does that bothers me is it's virtually a guarantee that he will pick up a charging foul within the first few minutes after he enters a game. Once he gets that out of the way he is ready to go.

I too am very bothered by the insistance of running out Quad when you could run the 4 guard lineup instead. The four guard lineup is better at defense and better at rebounding (because Quad is such a liability in both areas despite his size). Quad's only strength is he can be competent on offense, but the offense can do more things with the 4 guards than with Quad. There is simply no reason to play Quad more than a couple of minutes at this point. If he's only the floor too long when the game is in doubt, UC is not advancing far.

There have been a couple games where he has managed to avoid them (and a few others where he has been called for some BS charges), but I agree he still gets a bit out of control and defenders take advantage. He also gets beat off the dribble and with back cuts too much (but he is a frosh) though he is great in denial and has really good instincts. However, he does have quick enough hands that he's bailed himself out a couple times even when he gets beat. I am fine if Cumberland gets more minutes than KJ at this point though ultimately I think they both need to be on the court 25+ minutes a game (and they both have been of late).
