Could be that guy for us next year. I think he could have an Elliot Perry type of a year for us. We really need a guard that can take over a game .
I hope you are correct...but EP was a lefty who could go right. Hopefully Jeremiah will continue to develop his skills. He's got the heart, but the clock is tickin.
Thread title of the year candidate

I smell the blood of an upbeat thread.

lol.
I don't think we can win big with Martin as our starting PG. He would have been a solid role player on past Tiger teams, no more.

Be he short or be he tall
Someone's gotta distribute the ball.
solid backup combo guard at best. not a true point guard and not a 2 guard.

I would put him a little ahead of Kemp
He can be a lockdown defender if he didn't have to play 38 mpg. He wingspan is very long, has great hands, good anticipation and decent footwork. Work on those feet and he can become another Earnest Smith who used to shut down just about every guy they put him on including Todd Day.

Kemp much better form on his shot. His four 3s vs Mississippi St in 2008 saved our postseason and allowed us to play in NC game.
He's afraid to drive the ball (for no reason) and afraid to shoot the ball (for good reason) until it's too late to do either. And he's not that great at feeding the post, either. He's OK on defense, but if he doesn't improve the rest of his game over the summer and remains our point guard, we're probably going to have another season like the one we just had. I don't think he's cut out for that role, personally, just in it because we had no one else.Still don't, so far.
He does remind me of Kemp. But Kemp was a better shooter by far.
Martin is a very good defender and probably our best player on the break. The one thing he seems to be slow at playing the point is decision making. Maybe it's confidence maybe that's just the way he is.

He is better than OK on D, MT. Best penetratirvon this team by far. Unorthodox but he hits drives and a decent % of 3s last half of season. Not sure he will ever be our PG for a NCAA team unless he improves his passing and half court skills a lot. Gotta go 4 directions to play point.

Agreed. Thought the same thing.
I do like the kid. He needs to get more aggressive on the offensive end. More assertive. He's a really good defender, as everyone knows, and if he does those things, he'll really be good.

I think it's confidence.
Me too. Confidence does not happen overnight in that position...remembering JJ.
And it doesn't take much to set you back...remembering Pookie.
Jeremiah Martin is NOT the answer. We need a pg that can break the defense down if we need a basket. He can not do that on a consistent basis. I like him as a kid, but he is not the pg we need to take us to the tournament. He can not break his defender down when we play quality teams.
No sh!t but what is Tubby do to fix this?
