DISCUSS!!
Posted this in the other thread, that's a tough matchup. I thought if they got Bulter/Florida St they could have a better shot to upset.
3rd straight year that NMSU faces Baylor. They are not an unfamiliar team. But still...
Honestly this is the only 3/14 match up where this is a chance of an upset. Baylor lost last year as a 5 seed and this team doesn't seem like it is that much better.
I'm impressed the WAC got a 14th seed, with that said, it wouldn't surprise me if NMSU pulls off the upset. With that said, I'm not picking it but I think it is one of the interesting match-ups in the tournament. If NMSU had more substantial outside shooting from their guards, then I really could see the upset happening. Guard play will be the key! Good Luck to the Aggies!

How is the Western Athletic Conference winner in the east regional? too bad they are not in West
Bakersfield will play @ Cal on ESPN2 on March 14th in the NIT. Winner will play either Colorado State or Charelston
Utah Valley will play at Georgia Southern in the CBI on the 13th. UMKC will host Green Bay the same day. Both UVU and UMKC could meet in the CBI Final Four
In the end, half of the WAC will play in the post season. Could have been 5 if GCU accepted the CIT bid. Great season as a whole.

Wow. How many will UMKC draw? 500?

I saw this on Twitter.

Seriously @NCAA?!? Why does @NMStateAggies profile show a @UNMLOBOS player? This is from the March Madness app @mrudi19 @GeoffGrammer"

Agree.....overall great year for the WAC. I really don't think we expected this big a leap for the conference from where we were only a few years ago in such a short time. I hope this rising tide is lifting all schools and growing confidence, which will only benefit the level of this conference. Actually pretty excited to see what will happen next year with MBB.
(Cue Frank Allison now, with about 10 posts telling us and reassuring himself how the Ags will stomp everyone next year and that we shouldn't even bother playing the games)
The WAC is making great strides. Very encouraging to see. From almost the worst ranked conference a few years ago to number 21 or so now. And you can see several schools on the upswing, so the ranking is likely to keep rising. Grand Canyon's eligibility for the NCAA will only help too.

In some ways not all that surprising, since a big chunk of the WAC came from the old Great West - which did not have an NCAA bid. Once those schools had a bid to play do for, their profile and desireability greatly improved among potential recruits. We are starting to see that pay off now I think. Plus several very good coaches.

Going to push NMSU harder - which will be good.

It's a conspiracy, I'm sure of it.

What Barnes has done with Bakersfield is close to a miracle considering the horrible facilities you play in. I'm glad the WAC is getting better and I do love the addition of Cal Baptist to the league.

Losses by just 11 & 15 in Waco. You have to think neutral site will help the Aggies. This is also where we might see continuity of the Weir hire really pay off, as he has already prepared many of these very young men to take on this very opponent. Also to Aggies' advantage is that this is not the same NMSU team Baylor has faced previously. Many of the faces and names might be the same, but the style of game is totally different.

Probably the single greatest thing NMSU has going for them is my almost 3yo son picked New Mexico State to beat Baylor in the bracket we are helping him complete. Everyone knows a 3 year old's bracket is going to end up better than 73% of ours, so I think we can all feel good about Aggies getting the W! Haha

(BONUS: He also called his shot on the first ever 16 over 1, with NO taking out Nova, in case you wanna run that one to Vegas, too! :))
The WAC will be even better next year.

NMSU brings in the two 4-stars, AJ Harris and LJ Figueroa.

GCU has post season eligibility.

Utah Valley has Nielson and that 4 star from Arizona comes back from his misson im pretty sure this year.

Bako has mostly everyone back.

UTRGV and SU were very young but have another year under their belt. SU brings in the 3rd best player in the state, Nate Pryor who Dollar has had committed since his freshman year. 7'3 Menzies will be back and hopefully healthy all year. He dominated non-conference play but missed all of conference play. Means, Kavas, Uleano will be a year older and praying Montoya can find a way to he healthy.

UMKC will take a downswing and Chiraq State will very likely be terrible as always. But overall, 6 of the 8 WAC schools will be competitive with a legit chance of winning the conference

Highest rated 3 seed vs highest rated 14 seed according to kenpom. East just had too many ACC teams and they weren't going to send New Mexico St to Florida when FGCU still available.
