Let me throw out this as the givens:

The tourney will never be only in NC or NYC.

The candidates: NYC (MSG or Brooklyn), NC (Greensboro or Charlotte), DC, Atlanta, Florida (St. Pete, Tampa, Jax or Miami)

Throw in long shots like Louisville, Pitt, Syracuse, Chicago if you like but prepare for pushback

NC as a state is allowed to host events (throw out the politics)

Over 10 years...what is the mix?

I would look at the 10 year breakout like this:

Greensboro/Charlotte 4 years
NYC 3 years
DC 2 years
ATL or FL 1 year

Thoughts???
I think Greenville SC should get it. the SEC women's tourney has been here several times and they love playing here.

or Columbia or Charleston.

it makes more sense to have the games closer to the fanbase of the conference. they are the customers.

Works for me.

So you want to move it away from the larger BB fan bases and towards the smaller BB fan bases? Plus Greenville is not that far from Charlotte and the arena is less than 16k.
boston garden for 1 year sometime

If UConn was in the league I would say yes...however, adding Boston would take away a spot from a more deserving location IMHO.

why should there be favoritism for larger cities? And again, Duke and other good programs have many players from small towns. why do you believe all the good players grow up in the largest metroes? That is so stupid. almost everything you post on here is not true.

you provided zero evidence that playing games in large metroes helps recruiting.
i read on another website that tournament game tickets were going for 6 dollars. most fans aren't going to want to pay for airfare and hotel, etc to go see basketball games.

so at these cheap prices, the arena still only had 17, 732 people in attendance. 17,732 divided by the population of the NYC metro is basically zero.
ClemVegas, honest question, since you are a Clemson fan and until yesterday you hadn't posted on the board in 6 weeks. Do you follow/watch CBB? I'm curious.
why are you monitoring how long it has been since i posted. honest question. seems like stalker stuff.

what does your question have to do with this topic or my points. honest question.

let's say i don't follow college bball. so what? what does that prove in your mind? honest question.
I think the rotation should be 3 years each location and he locations should be Greensboro, NYC, DC, Charlotte, ATL and Louisville.
i wouldn't mind if in the future the programs in the northeast and Lville move to a different conference.

it doesnt make much sense for the tournament to be played up north when most of the fanbase is in the south. plus the bulk of the players at the southern ACC programs are from the south. if they don't recruit well in the south they aren't going anywhere.

this would have added benefit of doing away with the terrible division format in football.

You talk in circles...

You stated above: it makes more sense to have the games closer to the fanbase of the conference. they are the customers

I stated that moving it to Greenville actually moves it further away from the largest fan bases for college Hoops

The 4 largest BB fan bases are UNC, Duke, Cuse and Louisville. NC St and Pitt are probably the next two biggest. Notre Dame is a tough one...they bring TV eyeballs but they are unpredictable on the size of their traveling fan base for hoops.

What benefit would moving to Greenville do other than helping Clemson fans who are not noted for being rabid hoops fans?
Greenville isn't far from NC. it is also 2.5 hours from ATL, the biggest metro in the south, and 2 hours from Charlotte. have you ever looked a map? it seems like a location between two large southern metroes would be ideal.

I don't think Duke has a large fan base. It is a small private school. fanbase size isn't tied to how good the program is.

what does playing in NYC do for schools in the south? it much furthur away than Greenville from most ACC schools. you are the one contradicting your points.

i should also point out fanbases are spread out, your premise appears to be that every Duke, UNC fan lives in Durham / Raleigh. lol

reality is you want it played in NYC b/c you are a Cuse fan. so obvious.

I see you can't answer a simple question. And I asked because if you don't follow the sport, then your comments on where he tournament should be held are less informed. As for your posting, I hadn't seen a post from you in a long time until this weekend and it takes about 10 seconds to click on your user profile and confirm my thought. That you're absent during the CBB season, so I bet you don't follow the sport closely.
The first thing the ACC should do is find an airline partner and a couple of hotel partners. Based on those arrangements they should look at a rotation that gives the best chance of getting to the tourney without having to take out a 2nd mortgage.

Ultimately I think we should have rounds 1 and 2 regionally, then an ACC final four at a destination type location. You could have a couple of days in between for travel and rest. That's hard to do with 15 teams though.

Well, he's stated in another thread "most bball teams aren't fun to watch" so he pretty much admits (if his posts didn't reveal it already) he doesn't follow the sport or know anything about it. He also admitted he doesn't know or care about sports history in general. His comments lead me to suspect he's never been to NYC, and I suspect he may have never been north of the Mason-Dixon line. He only throws up strawman arguments, so I'm not sure why his posts are actually worth responding to.

I think you are on the right track.
In a 10 year span, I would be looking at 2-2-2-4.
Two in New York.
Two in DC
Two in Atlanta
4 in Greensboro

If the tournament could be moved to MSG, I would give NYC 3
If the ACC could move their football championship game to Atlanta even once every three years, I would least one of the basketball tournaments out of Atlanta and move it to Charlotte for the years that the football was in Atlanta.
Florida is a disaster for basketball (ACC or SEC tournaments).
If Atlanta could get the football every other year (we have to get the SEC to move out) they would not get a basketball tournament.

I'd say simplify: annually rotate Brooklyn, DC, and Greensboro. I'd try to stagger them so they're not in back-to-back years. That way, every recruiting class gets to play at each location at least once.

Women's tournament in Greensboro every year.

Football Championship in Charlotte every year (selling out of that game regardless of match-up will probably only happen regularly there).

I don't suspect we'll ever get MSG, but if we do, we'd have to sign a long-term lease. And I'd add for Brooklyn, we need to make an arrangement with the A10 to keep them in there in off years and the B10 out. In other words take over the A10's annual event lease so we have control over who gets that slot or do an exclusive sublease with the A10.

i think that I do in fact know something about basketball if I know most teams aren' fun to watch.

you come across as one of these brash New Yorkers who think NYC is the bees knees b/c you never been anywhere else. i don't think you know anything about the south.

my comments aren't about sports history. they are about recruiting. why are you talking about sports history? you are the most illogical person. you are basically talking to yourself.
