Former Cal asst here for 8 years, ultimately didn't get the job done.
He will land a nice asst job at kentucky
That is one of those "what do they expect?" jobs.

Minus Cal, UMass had only gone to 4 NCAAt's ever, one of which is with DK.

They lose no one this year, the only senior is a walk on bench guy. Three of their best four players are frosh/soph. So, whoever comes in will have a potentially full roster.

Weird time to can him.
maybe Tubby will toss his name in the hat
Another of Cal's AC's to get the axe. The coaching tree once looked like a promising Oak. Now it's more like a Palm. They just can't replicate Cal's program and success. Wonder why that is?

Who does Cal fire? He's got Barbee, Payne, Robic locked in. He's got Antigua, Strickland, and Kellogg looking for jobs.

Yea...first thing I thought. weird timing

Maybe they had expectations based on high star players they'd procured for him.
DK was a fan/administration favorite to take over after Cal but he wanted to force T. Barbee down our throats. Since DK was a company guy I wonder how he really feels now. He was a much better coach at the time than an inexperienced recruiter (CJP) so he stood the chance of doing better with incoming guys and local recruits. By extension he'd at least come away with that ridiculous contract CJP got.

Just a thought about how he feels about the narcissist cartel now and how different (maybe not much/maybe rolling) the program would look today.

I'm thinking Cal's major involvement in conducting practices has hampered his assistants from really preparing to become head coaches.
Wow! Didn't see that one coming.

Oh, wait...
