If you have the money for the buyout, feel free to call up Wood and demand he let Jones go. Money talks......... and since I doubt you have the money to do so, stop with the “we need to take our medicine now” bull.

Mind naming those coaches who inherited a crappy program and turned it into a NCAA tourney team quickly. And don’t name any P5 teams, because if anything was evident yesterday (during the selection show) if you’re a P5 you can be hot garbage and still get in to the dance

By all accounts, we had a better season and a better team than Marshall. They got a good draw in the tournament and held on. Good for them. MTSU has a schedule that many of us want, dominated the league for most of the season, lost in OT to Southern Miss and end up with a 3 seed in the NIT. Oh, and they are likely to lose their coach because of it.

I’m not sure I have the answer. I am sure the answer is much more complicated than any of us think. All I know is I’m disappointed in the result of the season and the system sucks.

I think you are falling into the trap of looking at this year as a one off. Of course making the tournament every year isn't the measure of success, but not making the tournament over the course of 5 years is, in my mind, a measure of failure.

A better schedule (and wins) will at least give us a fighting chance. We've done it before. This season's schedule was pathetic.

We could at least have a conversation about whether or not MTSU should have gotten a bid.

I guess we could technically have a conversation about ODU being at-large worthy, but it would be a short one.

MTSU was good enough to get snubbed. I'd settle for that right now.

You raise an interesting question. Is 30-4 against a terrible non con schedule or 26-8 against a better non con schedule schedule more likely to get you a bid. I don't know anymore. On the one hand they talk about SOS, but on the other hand is 30-4 from CUSA so gaudy that the media backs them into a corner.
I haven't gotten over the loss to WKU yet; not so much the loss, but the manner in which we played. Who TH shoots 7.7% from 3? Who TH shoots 50% from the foul line? And when they do, why wasn't the player who showed several times this season that he could shoot the ball put in the game? We played a lot of zone. I like Jeff personally but after that game, and knowing the buyout is just $300,000, I'd have no problem exercising that option. If we're going to play the Jones style because of our talent, then contact an assistant at UVA to ascertain interest. I know nothing of this Moton, but he's apparently done a good job there. Feel him out. As I said, I'm still bitter about WKU and how it went down, so I'm open to anything at this point.
St. Mary’s has 28 wins and they weren’t close. It seems conference affiliation is becoming the only thing that matters more and more these days.
I think in many ways, we need to stop calling this season a successful one and insert the work positive instead. Yes, this season was a positive one. We finished as a top 100 team with 25 wins and a second place finish in the league. That is definitely a positive. But these two things do not out weight the negatives therefore making this year more of a failure than a success. We lost to every team that had a higher RPI than us, we bowed out of the tourney early again, we not only missed the NCAA tourney, but missed out on the NIT. When we are only good enough to make a C tournament, then the facts say we aren't as successful as many of you claim we are. You throw in the fact the team looked very unprepared for the "big" games and our two most promising freshmen had their red shirts burned just to average 2-3 min in the games that they were allowed to play in. I just don't see enough for us to be defending the coaching staff. This isn't just on Jeff Jones, he has a full cast supporting him and if THEY cannot as a whole fix the issues, develop players into consistent playmakers, and prepare our guys for each and every game. Than what is the legitimate next step?

This season was high mediocrity as opposed to last season, which was medium mediocrity. Trey Freeman's halfcourt shot gave us the only real positive season since the Matt Howard tip in. We did improve this year, but it is very questionable if and how we can build on it. If we get a big time grad transfer big and one of the freshmen are ready to keep Carver on the bench on day one, I'll feel a little better. If we are forced to play guys that the opposing defense doesn't have to guard, I'm afraid we will be right back in the 75-125 range.

There should be some available. If JJ is the coach that can get us to the dance, it starts with landing one of these guys.

Dan D'Antoni

Do you think Dan D'Antoni would have made it this long if he had a .500 record and sub 150 teams for 3 years? IF you think the heat is on Jones now, what would the heat have been on D'Antoni? Do you think luckboxing an NCAA tourney appeareance would have eased the heat? (I'm not sure, genuinly asking)

Its pretty clear that until the committee changes their mindset, there is nothing we can do to get in the tourney without winning the tourney. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't MTSU have something like a top 10 non conference strength of schedule? And the committee didn't even put them in the first 4 out and they got a 3 see in the NIT...there were nowhere close to the NCAA tourney despite playing Belmont, Auburn, USC, Miami, Murray State, FGC, Vadny, Ole Miss, Princeton.
We could move to a 3 bid conference.

I'm not sure what their SOS was, but they deserved a bid. They got snubbed.

We might get snubbed as well with a similar schedule, but we sure aren't going anywhere with a schedule full of MEAC teams.

So yeah, the selection committee mat make a decision to keep us out, but let's at least give them a decision to make.

On the road a lot this morning listening to a multitude of radio shows - every single one of them multiple times essential say the same thing and it’s onky going to get worse with how the bigger schools are going to limit their schedules in the near future minimizing the opportunity for Mids to scheduled bigger profile games. So as it’s been for the history of our school - We are a 1 bid league ( the only exception of a few years in the CAA) where one big win made a difference in an also down year across all of college basketball. So when you enjoy the game of basketball and more importantly your alma mater ... accepting what is commonly referred to as mediocrity is about all you get until a 3 game weekend .

That may or may not be the case.

But ODU Basketball is quite a long way from having to worry about that. We need to get better and schedule up. Then we can worry about getting snubbed.

I'm not sure, especially since Marshall is more of a football school.

But in the end, getting to the NCAA's is the prize, however you get there. D'Antoni got it done, and you can add Marshall to the growing list of schools that have made the big dance since our last appearance.
What I don't get is why the approx 250 D1 schools not in the P5 aren't up in arms demanding that something be done to provide equal access. Its crazy that the P5 puppets that run the NCAA say "you have to play the P5 and beat them to get in the tournament" while at the same time the P5 say "we aren't going to play you". Well, of course not. They don't want any one outside of their exclusive club to gain access, plus if the middle teams of their conferences get in, thats just more money in their pockets. So its in the P5s best interest all around to never play anyone but themselves.

The other thing is the NCAA needs a rule that a school must be over .500 in conference to qualify for NCAA or NIT bids. Otherwise the whole thing just becomes a sham.

Having to worry about 3 games in March ?? At large is going to be more limited once the majors expand their conference schedule ..
