Team played hard but improvements needed on both ends on the court

We've been saying that a lot lately.
Same old movie.
How can Taylor be on the floor in that situation.

Gotta have someone who can rebound. But nobody should shoot free throws in the 40% range. That's inexcusable.

37 years too old...& counting 03-banghead 03-banghead 03-banghead
Rockets gave OU a game. That first 4 minutes of the second half really hurt and completely changed the game. Hold onto at least a 4 point lead 5 minutes into the half and maybe we stop the bleeding sooner than we did. Otherwise, it was a tough, physical grind-it-out effort that was there for the taking and unfortunately we lost. Kudos to Lauf and the med staff, cause he sure didn't look like someone who was going to play anymore ball.

But I think the case was made tonight that we absolutely need a big body banger inside next season and Knapke ain't that. Carter ate him up most of the game. Knapke does some nice things but we will have serious matchup problems many games next season if Knapke is it in the low post. Get us some help there, TK!
Too bad---it was out there for the taking for whoever wanted it the most, but it was Ohio that found a way to win and it was Toledo that found a way to lose---but then after 37 years, I suppose losing tourney games has become somewhat of a Toledo tradition. Not too disappointed however, because this season pretty much played out according to my expectations for the team.

Someone who can score down low and defend. Having a 6-11 guy who isn't consistent from 5ft in makes me do this 03-banghead all game

I just don't get how you can have Knapke's height + his athleticism and be so damn skinny. His height is almost worthless to our team in terms of having "big" men because he gets bullied every time out there against another true big man.

Well said. Wish we could expect more of our men's basketball program.

Yes. Taylor's FT shooting aside--and it was horrendous--can you just imagine next season when Knapke has to guard: Carter from OU...Wiggins from BG...Thompson IV from EMU...it won't be pretty.

Knapke is tall wing (he can show a nice stroke from 3), maybe high post (he did have some nice entry passes into Taylor until about about a month ago when teams figured out how to defend Taylor)...but not a low-post player. Not unless he really dedicates himself in the weight room and drinks gallons of protein shakes in the off-season.

But hey, he can drain a 3 pointer now and then. Perfect for K's offense.
Seriously though, the kid needs to bulk up...

He's not that skinny. He just needs more strength and a will to dunk the basketball when he is close to the basket. He has some very good attributes including a good pair of hands. How many centers have we had in the past who couldn't catch a ball? My hope is that next season we will have a running team and one more good passer who will set up Knapke for lots of dunks.
Toledo played well, but Ohio is the better and deserving team. They have better talent and overall depth. Why can't Toledo develop a solid team with depth?
I hate that I knew Taylor would get fouled. I hate that I knew, in spite of his recent success, that he would miss the FT. I hate that I knew that it made no difference who shot for OU that it would go in. I hate that I knew no matter who took the final for us it wouldn't go in. If I was superstitious I would swear we were snake bit.

How do you arrive at that conclusion? We win down there by 3 they win a neutral game by one. They basically have two guys Doug all the heavy lifting. Can't agree with your assessment of more talent and their depth wasn't that impressive either. I, and the results, would say evenly matched teams.

Very spotty recruiting has been my biggest concern with TK--even beyond defense. How, just a couple seasons after we'd won 20+ games and played in the MAC championship game, we found ourselves with an 8-10 and 9-9 MAC team is very disappointing. This year's class in particular was a head-scratcher: Roberts? Gordon? Dzierzawski? Antunez? Should have been able to springboard off of that one great season; instead, we find ourselves hoping for salvation with "one and done" transfers like Taylor this season and Fletcher next season. That's not how you build a program. Need to start showing more consistency and contributions from freshmen.

They are very close, but for starters Ohio was the 2 seed and Toledo was the 7 seed. Despite being down, they kept their poise and kept coming back. Everyone watching the game knew as soon as Ohio got the rebound, that they would drive down the court and hit a game winning basket. Toledo drove down floor, grabbed a rebound and threw up a panicked one-legged shot. A better team doesn't allow that to happen, and a better team would be moving on to Friday's semi-final.
