OK--I'm more of a stalker than an active member of this board, I probably agree with MD than most of you, yet I am a Huskie fan and follow and watch when I can.

STF, to my opinion, deservedly gets blasted often on this site and to me is more of a showman (used car salesman) than one with a real vision and ability to get things done (your state crisis aside). Very few teams have improved or helped NIU's brand under his watch, and the two most visible and important have really trended downward, and I would consider men's basketball downward as they certainly should be better and are nothing more than a team in turmoil.

All that said---Frazier has one last chance and honestly his best catch that is overlooked and rarely, if ever, written about on this board. NIU is hosting the NCAA golf championships in May. That should not be taken for granted. It is a huge catch.

So, STF, all we ask as a fan base with the opportunity to show NIU's brand is that you please don't let it rain or be seasonably cold in May. That's it. No glad handing. No holier than thou walking through the course. Please, can you just get us some decent weather? That would be a success these days.
I hope this post is a joke

I'm obviously not serious about the weather--although it would be nice to have good days in May.

Where there is some seriousness, and remember this comes from afar, from a fan.....during the past two years each of the three major sports have had serious personnel issues, well documented here.

1. The believe or not football team walkout before the Boise State game. I don't know the truth, but there are many on here have verified the story over and over again. I understand that there is a cycle in NCAA sports, especially at this level and much of the record goes to injuries, but that does not excuse the player issues that have happened.

2. The continual suspensions and now releases from the men's basketball team. Enough said. That horse is dead.

3. The still pushed under the carpet "separation" with Kathi Bennett. Again, player issues. Kudos for Lisa for turning that team around quickly, but only after yet another highly flammable player induced problem.

I have no problem being MAC level in any sport and competing where we can. However, the trending is much closer to FCS than a move to the Big 12 or any other non-lateral move.
I could do with a little Orange booster, an NCAA shot, or a MAC championship.

I simply cannot wrap my head around how a school in Ypsilanti MI or Akron OH can bring multiple MAC championships and place athletes at the NCAAs but a school 60 miles from the heart of one of the world's greatest cities buffered by what should be a Top 5 suburban recruiting playground for every single sport played at NIU is consistently an also ran in a mediocre to lower level Division One conference.

l don't the answer and I'm so frustrated with NIU Athletics right now.

While there is no easy answer, your frustration is understandable and shared. Extra credit to you for acknowledging that a certain school in Ypsilanti has multiple MAC championships despite a significant number of posters here regularly calling for the insane ouster of that school for a lack of football success.
I agree with giving Frazier more time. He has been handcuffed not only by lack of state funding, but more importantly by a small pool of donors who have been tapped out lately. Frazier has a vision but he has discovered over the last year that there is no money to finance it.

With that being said, SF has not made wise decisions on Carey and Monty. I don't know the specifics on contracts for either but it's clear at this point that neither one has the ability to elevate their programs. Monty's performance is especially disappointing and in my opinion he should not return for another season. Again SF may be stymied by finances with regards to the number of years left on his contract.

In all seriousness, we need to put on a great show at the golf championships. This was a great get. STF gets blasted a lot here---but this is a great chance to elevate NIU again. This is now in his control. The state crisis, total donors, and really attendance, and for the most part probably the scheduling are somewhat out of his control.

More time is what I am afraid of, it will complete his vision to have NIU in FCS. We may be on a downward spiral there already though.

this is an outrageous claim and a flat out lie. I just want to point that out.

How can Frazier be both "out for himself" and "have a vision to drive NIU to FCS"? Those are conflicting statements. An AD would be a failure if he drove an FBS school to FCS status.

I see a lot of parallels with current political climate in a globalism vs patriotism debate that Democrats and Republicans fight about. I think Frazier is more of a globist, but right now I think we need someone to look more after the concerns of NIU because tbh, this ship is sinking really really fast.

I guess I don't fully understand how a great golf championship elevates NIU. It's important, yes, but it's more a STF resume builder than an NIU get. Heck, the golf course itself is probably the biggest winner.

I mean, can anyone name any other NCAA championship location for any sport without research?

My main point is that Frazier has been blasted, and deservedly so, on many fronts. Those that have blasted (me included, at times) need to recognize that hosting this event is a big deal and was a great catch. Yep, I was tongue in cheek earlier about him delivering good weather.

And yes, who can name locations....and this will be niche audience, but it still is pretty cool that it is in our back yard.

I think Frazier would be better suited to be involved with the front office of a conference in some capacity. He seems to take big picture approach but I think we need someone more centered on NIUs specific situation and solutions

That's a more poignant response, as opposed to trying to turn it into a globalist vs patriotism conversation (A totally RIDICULOUS conversation in sports and politics). I still don't totally agree, but at least I can see more clearly where you're coming from.
The NCAA golf championships were awarded to NIU long before STF got here. Hosting the regional a few years back was the test run for the championships. The staff at Rich Harvest Farms, who have tournament experience with numerous women's professional events, the NIU men's and women's golf coaches and athletic department staff running the daily tournament operations will have more to do with the success of the event than STF (thankfully). It will be a fantastic event - can't wait to get out there.

Did not know that. I'd agree with the other poster, that it isn't that big of a deal for NIU, overall.
Another example of a great home course but again we never come close to winning the MAC Championship.
Boggles the mind on how come we can't get the right coach or players for a really good run.
Course is phenomenal and you will not find practice facilities anywhere.
