Way-too-early-RPI thread, at that.

Warren Nolan has us:

55
1-2 record vs top-50 RPI

This week we've got @UNO (101) and we host Xavier (53). I predict we'll go 2-2 this week. Lose @UNO and 1 game vs Xavier.
UNO is decent. They have a good young coach who has them trending upwards. They'll be fired up to have us there kinda like we do when OM or Bama comes here.

Xavier is interesting. They've been pretty mediocre thus far but they were a top 75 team (and a regional finalist) last year and were projected to win the Big East by pretty much every publication. Their Friday guy is a legit top 50 college prospect and led the Cape in Ks last Summer. They're more than capable of taking a game or two from us.
We have a good chance to increase our strength of schedule as well with:

Tulane (255) playing ULL (34) once at home and San Diego (52) 3 times at home
Evansville (213) plays 3 road games against a team in the same RPI vicinity while they have 2 home games against teams with 105 and 157 RPIs

On the flip side ULL plays Tulane (255) and a 3 game weekend series vs Saint Peters (299). Interestingly this is Saint peters first games of the season
isn't it too early in the season to be thinking about RPI?
Sure, but it's something to talk about.

The OP first sentence "Way-too-early-RPI thread".
It is too early for RPI thoughts. But not much.

The drastic changes will slow every week.

Make some starting pitching moves to the ones who are performing and it will be a 4-0 week.

That being said, 4-0 we may move up. 3-1 we will linger. 2-2 has an anchor attached.
I thought this was going to be a satirical thread about basketball RPI
^haha
LaTech scored 2 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th to beat State in Starkville tonight. 3-2 final. Could very well be ranked in most polls when we go there next week.

FIU beat Miami 12-1 in Coral Gables.

Rice lost again tonight, 10-4 final against Lamar. They've started out sluggish in recent years but never this bad. Owls 4-9 on the year.

Tech's already ranked in the coach's polls
Might be about Graham's time. Their talent level has really dropped the past five years.

With that said, if I'm a Rice fan, not sure I'd want the current AD picking any of my coaches.
Last year was probably the beginning of the end for Graham, where Rice finished 4th in the league and was 4-8 against USM/FAU/Tech. They've still been good the past 8-9 years, but nothing close to what they were in the 2000s when they were arguably the best program in America. I think they'll be in the mix for the CUSA title because their talent, while not as good as it used to be, is still best in this league. But we're more than capable of taking the series at Reckling in April.

If Graham does "retire", they should give Matt Riser at SELA a hard look.
RPI went from 55 to 36 after the UNO win.

Now up to 37 with SOS of 72. It's amazing how quickly the numbers can jump (and drop) this early in the season.
Xavier is going to be a tougher series than most think. They took 2 out of 3 @ Troy. They split a 4 game series vs Penn State. They could've easily took 2 out of 3 vs Charlotte (they lost one game 2-1). They also split 2 games w/ Georgia. We need to just win this series this weekend. Anything less will be disappointing.
Ya know what happened to Rice? The crappy demise of CrapUSA............ that is all.

Another one that caught me off guard was the amount of teams that didn't start playing games until last weekend. Our midweek series next week is against Columbia who had their first game last weekend. They play 4 games in Starkville this weekend (2 vs MSU and 2 vs South Alabama) but before those 4 they have only played 3 games. I get that it's a northern thing with the weather and such but you'd be surprised at the amount of teams that have only played 3 games so far.

I asked the same question on another board. Apparently the Ivy League schools do not allow their teams to go on month long road trips. Something to that effect.

That's somewhat what it appears they are doing. They (Columbia) are playing the 4 games is Starkville this weekend, play us Tuesday and Wednesday, and then go to Tulane and play a weekend series against them so weather permitting they will be playing 9 games in 10 days. Also, assuming they stick to a "normal" pitching rotation we should be facing 2 pitchers who've pitched little to none on the season.
