In my opinion, there's no way in hell that Tubby hires Penny to the staff. It wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. But, he's not doing it.
This season was painful. Next season may be worse...

I hated the idea of Penny as coach, but uh he couldn't suck as bad as the guy we got.

Some here were only going to WATCH games (not necessarily buy tickets) if they hired Gregg Marshall or Buzz Williams. So if they would have hired Penny I would have been fine with it, even excited, but some here would have their same stance. It's a lame bogus stance that shows Zero loyalty.
Yeah, firing penny would be a good optic for the program.
Penny is not the answer. Penny is the admission we're not even trying any more.
I feel like the fan base needed a jolt. I feel like Penny really connects to the local kids. He's done a helluva job at East. He also has plenty of NBA contacts that likely could've brought in to give kids exposure. Tubby is done. I don't care that it is his first year. He's done. Getting drilled by SMU, Losing to Tulsa and UCF and these other rat programs is the new norm. The longer Tubby is here the worse it's gonna kid. I thought it couldn't get much worse then JP. I was totally wrong
You all think Memphis can hire a "big time coach". People's perception of Memphis is way lower then many of you. Up and coming coaches wanna coach in ACC, or Big 12 or Big Ten or whatever. Not the AAC. Just like football. Penny would've been a helluva lot better then what we have now.

Tubby has two seasons more that are disappointing.
I could see Penny being hired in desperation in 2019.
Some people are patronizing, but this is good....Penny should be on the staff @ Memphis...If Tubby is as brilliant as he is hailed, doing what it takes to make this team successful is what Tubby should be about.... I've said this before and most understand that Memphis is a city that has a very unique mentality, especially in the youth.....There must be some connection that they respect and adhere to, or you have situations like this where players don't respond to tutelage and drift into mediocrity.... Penny IS that connect and Tubby should do what it takes....Penny would learn a lot from Tubby but also get the players attention as well as give Tubby TREMENDOUS insight....

That's why I thought that Anthony Grant would work under Pastner.....NOT that Penny is equivalent to an AG, but players(predominantly Memphis players) need to lookup to someone while Tubby focuses on more of the fundamentals to be instilled in the players. We need Penny to get them to buy-in and give effort.... Were a YOUNG team but fundamentally weak.
With Penny on THIS staff our recruiting takes a tremendous turn; Lawson's intact and WE COULD BE a turnaround team looking to scare someone in the tourney!!!! That's far more important than trying to prove a point and allowing our limited resources to vacate from this precious city!!! Get something done and done quickly as this embarrassment of a program is once again getting difficult to watch......and the bodies lined-up right now for next year....won't make too much of a difference IF WE ARE RELOADING AGAIN!!!!
