Yeah, typically USSF takes almost all ticket revenue, and pays a flat fee to the stadium. Also, there's your reason why Women's games have ****** attendance.

Quality games sell well but NZ is not a quality opponent. Nor is this an important game or even a game leading up to an important tournament. This is a low tier friendly which they will get a decent but not great crowd for.

The argument that the USMNT and USWNT tickets are significantly overpriced for this level of game has been going on for a while.

Apparently already sold 20k tickets.

Hmmm...I wonder what the rental agreement for this game is?

Did I correctly read that 20,000 tickets were sold in 24 hours? That can't be right.

Right now Cincinnati is going crazy for anything soccer. 20,000 show up here while they play other teams that dwell in the equivalent of a high school stadium.

I just noticed that the Valencia game on Monday is not sold out. And I don't recall seeing any announcements about ticket sales.

Last I saw it was at 15k+ from a tweet not too many days ago. I'm guessing 20 to 25k for that one, but that may be generous. What with the open cup run, the league play, and the USWNT, the Valencia game hasn't got much pub.
Will fans be allowed to set off red and black smoke bombs since FCC fans can set off smoke bombs?

Are the rules for fan behavior different for NCAA events vs. pro sports events?
A few things.. as a Bailey Season ticket holder.. there is NOTHING better than bringing a few close friends to the game I so dearly love, that they have ribbed me about for years, and turning them into soccer fans. I got a text from 2 of them this week asking if I had an extra Bailey ticket or 2 so they could come to the friendly tonight.... I understand it isn't for everyone.. but for a guy who loves energy, and enjoys being really tuned into the game I love the Bailey, the flags don't block views except when nothing play wise is happening(beginning of game, or end of game), otherwise people behind you take your flag.. also I am 6'5" so the leg room in the non GA portions of the stadium are poopy for me

Go to a game, give it a chance, I can assure you Baseball is less appealing to most of the millennial crowd and younger. The game(barring Weather delays, which aren't as common as they would seem this year), are usually at least 1 hour shorter than a baseball game. It also has a much higher "ball in play ratio" with nearly constant motion on the pitch due to lack of normal timeouts, unlike football where the play is actually only happening for 11-15 minutes during a 3 plus hour period..

I love football, but everyone I have brought to FCC, who were even ANTI-soccer previously, have all turned into at least enjoying going to the games..

23k. That figure put overall attendance past the 300k mark and over 20k/match for all matches (USL, USOC, Valencia)
Tood Portune working to keep FCC at Nippert.

FC Cincinnati General Manager Jeff Berding says the team has no interest in staying at Nippert Stadium if the club is promoted to Major League Soccer.

But that’s not stopping Hamilton County Commission President Todd Portune from pursuing a deal that would keep the team at University of Cincinnati’s stadium – MLS requirements be damned.

Portune even called some of the team’s complaints about the stadium "red herrings."

“They’re playing in a perfect stadium right now and we don’t need to build a new one,” Portune told WCPO in an interview last week. “That’s where I am on this, that’s where the university is on this.”

Berding doesn’t exactly agree.

He said the stadium boasts a number of inconveniences that could thwart the team’s plan to get into the MLS. The team’s ownership – which is looking for $100 million in public dollars to help build a new stadium – doesn’t plan to have discussions with UC officials to stay at the stadium for MLS play.

Berding said he’s consulted with architects and engineers who believe the university would need to consider reconfiguring its campus in order to expand the stadium.

“We don’t believe Nippert is going to work,” Berding told WCPO in an interview last week. “Unless UC came to us and said, ‘Look, whatever it takes, we’ll knock down buildings.”’

UC declined to specifically address plans to keep FC Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium.

“The University of Cincinnati has enjoyed our partnership with FC Cincinnati since the club’s inception and look forward to it continuing into the future,” Mike Bohn, the college’s athletic director, said in a statement.

Berding ticked off a litany of reasons Nippert won’t work as an MLS stadium.

The most obvious challenge is that the team doesn’t own the stadium, a new requirement MLS has for any teams entering the franchise. Without owning the stadium, the team has a harder time controlling revenues from ticket and concession sales or parking.

“We don’t make the rules,” Berding said. “If you want to apply and be selected into MLS, you have criteria to meet. If you want to apply to Harvard, you’ve got criteria to meet. They don’t have to select you.”

The other problems: Nippert has turf, there are no kitchens on site, the stadium’s entrance is too small and it lacks restrooms.

Portune believes these are all fixable issues. His opposition to building a new soccer stadium could be problematic for the team's plan to build a new stadium with the help of local tax dollars.

“No one is complaining about that at Nippert, except for the people who want to build a new stadium,” Portune said. “They’re all red herrings. Not a single one of them amount to a legitimate impediment to Nippert being the facility that works for soccer in Cincinnati.”

Portune said he began discussing ways to keep the team at Nippert last month, just minutes after FC Cincinnati’s big win against the Chicago Fire.

During that June match, FC Cincinnati took on an MLS team in front of a crowd of 32,000 and ESPN commentators complimented the stadium’s vibe during the broadcast.

Portune said he hopes to meet with UC officials further to see if a plan to keep the team at Nippert, regardless of MLS status, can be worked out.

“We – meaning the county and UC – are going to begin to map out how that can be addressed,” Portune said. “(FC Cincinnati has) already got lightning in a bottle where they are.”

Why would they need to do that? Expand seating? This article raises more questions.

And I don't think changing back to grass should be an option. I don't think UC should do that to accommodate soccer.

If a partnership with FCC is to continue into MLS then UC should try to negotiate a better deal or see continued donations from the Lindner family.

"there are no kitchens on site"

Well that's certainly a deal breaker. 01-wingedeagle

What needs to be cooked on site. Typical Billionaire crap on spending others money.
Alright, that's it. They can't throw out re-designing the entire campus for a minor league soccer team. They need to move...and Portune has no ******* clue what he's talking about if he thinks the alternative is a smart move.
"knock down buildings"? "no kitchens on site"? Berding and Lindner will probably ask for gold toilets next. Maybe they can move into xavier's football stadium ... oh wait ...
As great as Nippert is for soccer it doesn't appear that it is an option for MLS. Their requirements that teams own their facilities make sense from a scheduling standpoint. A professional sport doesn't feel like scheduling around college football. College football is much harder to schedule around since you know for the most part most NFL games are Sunday 1 pm. Sucks because the atmosphere at Nippert for those US Open Cup games will never be matched at a smaller stadium.

As a Hamilton County taxpayer I'm done with any money going to supplement the billionaires highly profitable businesses. If we lose FCC to Newport or never get MLS so be it

Expanding? You think your little team need a stadium that holds more than 40,000?

Not even the biggest MLS teams need stadiums that big.

I must have forgotten the steeped history of soccer in the US, which has used traditional grass fields for generations.

No... kitchens? I wasn't expecting that one. There are at least 5 kitchens on campus, and the university has its own catering service.

The entrance is too small? We got a HUGE crane through that entrance, have multiple EMS vehicles waiting there, and I'm sure entire (real) football teams full of 300+ pound men can run through there without issues. Unless your team is entering the stadium onboard the Space Shuttle, you're full of crap.

Lacking restrooms is actually a legitimate complaint, but I'm sure something could be worked out.

I used to be understanding of the team wanting its own stadium if there was no other way to join MLS, but this public flogging of the university (that gave you a very generous deal) has ruined any goodwill I had toward FCC. It's totally uncalled for. I now hope FCC never gets to MLS... not to keep the money and people flowing into Nippert, but out of spite.
The Nippert thing was never going to work out for them getting into MLS.

Unfortunately, they are biting the hand that feeds them a bit. If they don't get into MLS and this deal expires, they are going to have an up hill battle on getting a "fair" deal.
Berding knows that FC Cincy needs a new stadium. That much is clear based on the statements of the MLS thus far. Even though Cincinnati appears to have captured a groundswell of support and fandom for futbol, MLS runs the show and has clearly stated FCC needs to have plans for a new stadium if they'd like to be invited. Berding is only going into detail in response to Portune's actions.

I think Portune is the one actually walking a pretty fine line, here. I think FCC will get a stadium in the area if they want it, with things falling to NKY if Cincinnati is not willing to provide an avenue of public funding. Portune is doing everything he can to ensure there is no chance it happens in Cincinnati - or that a conversation even takes place. I'm not sure that is a good look for him. I know he's championed himself as the leader of the opposition to the Bengals lease agreement, but this is a different situation and likely a much more reasonable partner. He shouldn't be so quick to dismiss the mere conversation about continuing to have FCC in Cincinnati. With the growth of soccer in the US, the FCC could potentially replace the popularity and tax revenue of the Bengals in ten years when the NFL may or may not still be present in Cincinnati.

Ultimately, his demands to keep FCC at Nippert are not reasonable and he runs the risk of losing FCC to NKY or damaging their bid to enter the MLS.

Are you a resident of the City of Cincinnati? How about Hamilton County?
