If Dodd is right about the AAC being worth 200k per team, then this sh!t might just come to fruition...

Stop...just stop. The AAC will never be part of this nonsense.
And I'll say it again, Dodd's two storylines contradict themselves:
TV won't pay AAC $60M for 73 football games with a proven track record of getting you 45million viewers - TV can't afford that.
However, TV will pay $160M for a nucleus of an idea for 3 football games that should draw about 6million viewers total (that's DOUBLE the viewership of FCS semis and championship).

true
Aresco already stated he won't join a g4 playoff. They can start a fcs championship game if they want.

Agreed.

That is big talk, but he may change his mind if the money for a G5 playoff is significant. Like always it will come down to dollars.
we join this and the P5/G4 split is complete

The networks pay a combined 52 million a year for the entire regular season rights to every single G5 conference. There is absolutely zero evidence to indicate that any network would pay 160 million for handful of G5 playoff games.

If these types of G5 games were that valuable---there would be a series of high end G5 bowls with huge payouts and massive TV rights pitting the champions of G5 conferences against one another. There is absolutely nothing preventing such bowls from existing. So, if there were networks willing to pay big money for such contests---these bowls would already exist. In fact, what we know is NO network was willing to pay 40 million for a G5 champ vs a top 10 P5 school. We know that because no G5 was able to land or create a contract bowl.

Long story short---the money isn't there to make this happen.

No!!!! Only the guy from NIU said anything about this! No one else is interested and Dodd hates the AAC!

Cheers!
The Networks want another Playoff because the Postseason Bowl Games are a wreck.
NOBODY is watching the match ups between evenly matched mediocrity.
Who cares about two 6-6 teams facing off to see who ends the year with a losing record while the University has to swallow a giant ticket allotment?
Nobody, that is who.

If they want a second playoff then just create an NIT with the Conference Winners not included in the CFP, and the remaining top ranked teams to fill out the 8 or 16 team bracket.

But just stop with the crappy bowl games that bilk money from universities.

The networks pay almost nothing for the c-usa and sunbelt. Mac slightly better because they will play on weird nights. Now all of a sudden networks will pay for a glorified fcs playoff?

The AAC will not join this garbage. You're a asking to be permanently labeled as an nobody if you join this.

agreed
What's the up side to a playoff, if it means much better recruiting for the aac teams then mybe that's a good thing ?
You win the G5 playoff and nobody cares, just like winning the FCS playoff...nobody cares.

Yup. You'd officially win the big battle to be crowned the 66th best team in the nation. I'm sure veiwers would flock to that epic battle. That's the same reason nobody cares about the FCS playoff. The winner is basically seen by Americans as the 129th best college football team in the country. Not exactly must see tv.

Aresco already agrees with this, so the AAC isn't going to be involved with this playoff. It would need to be a G4 playoff which would mean even less interest. I'm not even sure teams in the MWC would go for this. I doubt Boise wants to play in a lower level playoff.
