The only thing negative about Coach K's recruiting is he hasn't brought that 1 guy in who could lead us to a championship. But non of the other guys have either since 1980. Epperson would be that guy but it and it is also possible he decides this is the place for him. To an Aussie I don't think playing on the biggest stage will be as big of an issue as it would to an american. If he is most comfortable here they have a good shot or bring him in.

I don't see any connection to the UT program with Jacob other than his dad went here. Ken never has been a part of the program like Jay Gast, Jay Lehman, Jeff Coil etc. who have been around the college and have brought their kids around it. Sure Ken lives around the other side of the equator and has reason for not being "around". Thinks it's great that he is coming to campus and bringing his son for a visit. Just don't see him coming here. We can't even keep a football player from CCHS who was committed here, and our football team has been solid for a many years.
UT has a better rep outside of the OSU-UM shadow.
It's difficult to see "home" for what it is, good or bad but when away, it's always nice to hear the Toledo name. You'd be in a better position down there, to put UT into perspective.
Official visits being controlled, taking one here could speculate several reasons. Doing it for Dad. Doing it because he already has the desired offer in the bag and so can do this for Dad.
Living at home (Toledo), knowing we don't have the "Championships," the NCAA visits or even academically, the overall rep of our bigger neighbors, it's harder to speculate that the visit is on merits. To us, it's just "UT." We certainly don't get a lot of hype from the local. Don't have a clue how the university is viewed from afar, athletically or academically.
If Ken hasn't been back in a number of years, the changes will be huge for him. I've heard from a number of former Rocket athletes that have returned from campus after being away and they raved about UT.

Btw, I remember Ken having a Denny Crum coached Louisville offer.
The Cardinals were coming off a National Championship in 1980.
I was told by a UT staffer they thought, Ken would have been a 6th or 7th man in that program.

You thinking maybe Lebron James? I couldn't find anything to confirm that Jordan made all-state. Kid out of St. John's a few years ago, played for ND, was a good soccer player. He was a really good defensive player.

I may have picked that up from an awkwardly written scouting report that said he "played one year of football. Made All-State his senior year". I took that to mean in football, but it probably referred back to his hoops career.He did have some pretty nice stats: 7 upcoming and 22 per reception with 700 some receiving yards. He also played soccer .

Harper had a speech impediment than was misunderstood. Some coaches considering him an inferior student and learner when he was actually a clever guy who needed help with his speech disorder to handle the verbal communication requirements of college. Not sure if that was what happened with Nichols but it might have been part of it. Newsome was a good college player and a great HS player but seen by most as a Justin Roberts type-skilled and smart but just too small. He wasn't a great college player but overcome his 5-8 height to be a good MAC guard. Donnie Dobbs was an undersized PF from those great Macomber teams who didn't have local recruiting interest, went to juco and became all conf USA at St Louis when that program was strong. Deon Thompson from Devilbiss did come to UT but didn't get much time as a frosh and became a D2 star and later a local coach and commentator. i always thought UT missed on his development by not trying to make him more of a part of the program.
Lauf could be more of a situational player who comes in to hit some threes. There certainly are players on the bench who don't contribute. Two of UT's career leaders in 3 point field goals made are Nick Moore and Chad Kamstra, both about 5-11 (Lauf is 6-0) and not overly athletic, just smart.

Manny Newsome was Dean of Student Affairs at UT.
Former UT player Kurt Hall, now at St Cloud State, averaging 8 points and 2 rebounds after missing last season with a broken ankle.

At any rate, it was Harper because it was an interview in a national publication as I recall. As a result, quite a few fans started to encourage Nichols to retire.
Josh Lemons is the pg at Valdosta St a good D2 program with 4 or 5 D1 transfers. averages about 10/4/3 nd is holding the ball in the team photo.
