I'm rooting for Atlanta -- anybody but Patriots...

News says it will take fans 1.5 hours to get into the stadium.
Protesters gathering in Hermann Park will probably try to disrupt Light Rail service to the Stadium.
They had Wade Phillips do a history of Houston football segment on the pregame show as part of showing how football crazy the city is. It covered high schools, UH, the Oilers, and the Texans.
I saw the Falcons several times at Rice this week - didn't hear any feedback, positive or negative though, from them on the practice field. If Atlanta wins, Rice will be 2-0 in Super Bowls in Houston vs. UH in terms of where the winning team practiced (I think New England was at Rice in 2003 and Carolina at UH?).

Saw that. Said "Football was born in Houston in the 1890s and a Houston team in 1920 won the first state championship." Presumably a high school team but wtf?

College football began at Rice. John Heisman coached at Rice. Rice finished a season ranked as high as fifth in the nation. Uh never finished that high (or did they? Even so...). The first hinterland Super Bowl was played st Rice. Rice was a consistent Top 10 in attendance in the 50s. UH's heyday was over a generation ago as well. No mention at all. Wtf?

Then segued to 1953 and talked about Kenneth Hall but again wtf? Ken Hall was from Sugar Land which had no kin to Houston at the time. He then went to A&M. Sugar Land was a 1A school whose district included Missouri City, Hitchcock, Pearland, Katy, Deer Park, Eagle Lake and East Bernard. My uncles chased after Ken Hall when playing for E B. Again, a non sequitur

Then the rest of the piece was about the Cougs and Luv Ya Blue.

I wonder who scripted this piece. Looked like Craigie Roberts (spit!) or BillLeonJaworskisNephew Worrell (pttuui!)
Disagree about Hall. Sugar Land (now Dulles) is literally 14-15 miles from NRG Stadium off South Main. I guarantee it's closer to the Texans football complex than a number of parts of Houston within the HISD confines. And the other schools in that district you mentioned (Missouri City, Pearland, Katy and Deer Park in particular) are all considered Houston suburbs. I'm guessing Phillips knows Hall because Wade Phillips lived in a house on Highway 6 in Missouri City when he coached the Oilers.

I'm not sure Hall merited enough of a mention however in Texas football annals. But I do think that if you do mention Hall, it's fair enough to say he was playing in Houston.

I'm pretty sure Bum was on the staff at aTm when Hall was there.
No I just looked it up - Bum was only at A&M in 1958 and Hall was already playing professional football by then.

OK, I knew Bum was on Bryant's staff at some point. Interestingly, Bryant described Bum as the best football mind that he had ever been around.
Score at the half

Atlanta 21
New England 3

Lady Gaga a gazillion (she slayed the halftime show)

Yes indeed. She's got guts and talent.

David Bailiff has replaced Josh McDaniels as the Patriots' offensive coordinator. When asked, Head Coach Bill Bellichek said, "I thought the team needed a challenge this week".

More details to come...

That Brady guy is good.
Helluva of a game - all-time classic. Some amazing catches and of course, an unbelievable comeback by New England.

But I absolutely can not believe Fox Sports (and Atlanta) completely missed a challenge that likely cost them the game in regulation. Right before the 1st NE touchdown (and 2 point conversion), New England's rookie WR was credited with a catch where he stopped and sort of touched the ball down on the field and didn't try to get extra yards. It looked to me watching the only replay they showed that he did that because he bobbled the ball and didn't catch it and was frustrated with himself. But no replay challenge came from Atlanta, and more remarkably, Fox Sports didn't show the play again later (New England scored just a couple of plays after that catch/non-catch).
Falcons were cursed from having to practice at Rice.
I was surprised that ATL didn't challenge Ryan's "fumble". It looked like his arm had just started forward and might have been ruled an incomplete pass.
A tale of two halves. All Atlanta, then all NE.
Great game, and a lot of SB's aren't.

Houston looked good, too.

I was pulling for New England so this would be settled. 5-2 with 4 MVPs.

Heard Joe Namath talking about playing "underground" at HRS.
