I think it's time to start Cumberland and bring KJ off the bench. Jarron is just so damn aggressive which this offense needs. KJ struggles to finish.

Here's a +\- for the lineups tonight.

Plus KJ has always seemed like the perfect 6th man to me. Intense defender and streaky shooter.

I don't know maybe if it ain't broke don't fix it applies here.
Agreed. I don't even care if KJ gets the token start, but Cumberland needs the majority of those minutes. He didn't perform tonight, but the last 2 games before that made me a believer.

I actually think it's important who starts. And I think both would thrive off the symbolic role. It would be another shot of confidence for Cumberland and I really think KJ would relish the 6th man role.
Cumberland is playing the Bobbitt role perfectly. He gets an idea on the flow of the game and I trust him attacking a team's second unit over KJ offensively.

KJ is more of a spot up shooter relying on a kick out or pass from Caupain, with a good baseline jumper from time to time.

Cumberland is able to create his own shot and has a better handle on a fast break.

A 20/20 split probably gives the best of both depending on if we need an offensive boost or a defensive stop.
why do some of those lineups have 6 people on the court? something may be off there..
Three guys played 37+ minutes so +- is going to come down to who plays the 2 and who plays the 5. Very interesting that despite him struggling individually we were +19 with Cumberland playing with the starters. That is probably our best lineup but we definitely need good minutes from all of our 5-8 guys.
You do not tinker with what is working. As i've said before, Cumberland(and at times Washington) are both tentative on the road. There are plenty of minutes to go around. If it's not broke do not fix it. Cumberland has provided spark numerous times off the bench and that cannot be underestimated.

Maybe subs during foul shots?
No reason to change anything

Don't just get fooled by our record, we've been in the Big East and see what competition really does. This team is 2-2 against RPI top 50.

They have some good moments and have some fun players, but it's far from a well oiled machine. Cumberland is just the better player between the two.
KJ needs to start. His defense is 10x Jarron's. Things work well like as they are going now. Cumberland will have 3 years to start, if he's here that long.
Notice the worst combination is four starters with Washington out and Quadri in his place.

Shows we really need Washington to limit his fouls and we really need Brooks giving him and Clark a breather.

Sure, or Tre Scott in for Washington, or go back to the Gary Clark + 4 guards which worked very well at times.

I don't think it matters SO much who starts. The distribution of minutes is more important. Johnson is still getting between 5 and 10 more minutes a game than Cumberland. Cronin has begun switching them out on offense and defense at the end of close games, which is good. But I still wish that Cumberland and also Jenifer would take those 5-10 minutes more that Johnson gets. As the games get tougher and more meaningful, though, I imagine the disparity is more likely to grow than shrink, as Cronin will rely more and more on the upperclassmen. Here's hoping KJ knocks down 3s at a decent clip.
A couple interesting things looking @ basketball reference:

First WS/40 - WS and box score results show we are a significantly better team with Cumberland with the other 4 starters:
Clark .231
Evans .220
Cumberland .217
Washington .210
Caupain .195
Scott .185
Jennifer .166
Brooks .123
Johnson .117

Next BR shows this is our worst strength of schedule since tony yates was our coach
It also says this is our best team since 01-02
my fav five on the floor at once is
Caupain
Cumberland
Evans
Clark
Washington
The 'you don't mess with what is working' idea is flawed.
If you are good do you not want to be great?
Do you want to make it to the second weekend or to third?

Metrics are a very useful tool. This is a great case for getting JC more minutes, it has to be an even split with KJ or more than KJ if we really want the success we say we do.
