Thanks for doing this Quick. This would be something we all need to look at after 4 weeks. 04-cheers
Would like to see FIU and UTSA take big steps in their respective states next weekend. Beating UCF and Houston would mean something.

Marshall will let everyone know, rather quickly, whether they're "back" or not.

No more excuses for MT. Great schedule to step-up with.

UAB gets an immediate "measuring stick" with Alabama A&M. Let's see where the holes are.

I mean I guess I get it, but we were disappointments in conference way more than out of conference last year. We dropped the Vandy game, but we beat Missouri and Bowling Green (as well as Alabama A&M) last season to finish 3-1 OOC.

The 'stepping up' that you are looking for isn't MT. It's in Florida and Texas, where we've been waiting on schools to step up since the great CUSA realignment.
I want to see ODU take another step as well. Granted, we won 10 games last year, but several of our foes had down years. The only "good" teams that we faced were NC State, App. St., and WKU, and they all handed us our lunch. I would like to see us beat a good G5 or P5 this year.

I think we can take UNC. We remember the beatdown during our transition year. They are breaking in a new QB, they are at our place, and their run defense was terrible last year. favorable matchup.

The 2 wins in 5 games against the American by CUSA last year was WKU + LaTech Bowl wins.

I think UNC is going to be tuff. It helps that you guys play them before VT. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see ODU beat UNC and then lose to Southern Miss in CC game04-cheers

No Doubt. It's just one I think we can pull out if everything goes our way (and our QB far outplays theirs).

And we certainly would welcome you back to friendly confines of SB Ballard Stadium for a CC game -- but not so fast on the "lose" part of that!

s for MT. Great schedule to step-up with.

I'm not convinced yet. Several observations:

Our defense is improved
Our special teams are improved
Offense is still anemic
Really lacking a power back (a la DJ)
Bill Legg is still calling the offensive shots

Next week will tell us where we line up with a decent P5 team. Kent and Cincy will give us more of an idea of how we can expect to do in conference.
Optimistic for 3-1 ooc, but I'd not be surprosed at 2-2.

I do feel much better for a 7-5/6-6 season. We shall see.

Okay but come on NC State is not just a decent team they're pretty good

They lost to South Carolina. They're not world beaters. Don't get me wrong, I think they'll win by 14+.
I think 3-1 is better than a 50% in ooc. I also think our offense, if a few issues are addressed, will be fine. We have so many new faces at receiver, it will take more live game reps to get everyone on the same page, but from what I saw, the talent and speed is there. Rb, hard to gauge, Miami didn't respect our pass game and constantly crashed the line or stayed in the box just waiting. Until the pass game is respected, we won't have much of a running game.
It seems that our receivers and db's are deceptively fast....HawkTalk was on fire saying that their security nearly just couldn't keep up and their receivers just
Couldn't get any separation... hope this is true....we will see Saturday
If you give them a good game, I would you're back. If you win, I'd say you are not only back, you are way, way back. Good luck to the Herd.
