not a shocker in the least.

probably would see most teams when they start the week before Labor Day-
week 1- cupcake game
week 2- Labor Day- neutral site games/good matchups elsewhere

When they start Labor Day jump right into those good games.

I love the week 1 matchups form last season. Start out with a bang.

we'd still get the good games- but maybe with the benefit of having a game before it to work out the kinks for new players. Also, and this is going to sound bad, the guys that got in trouble and got suspended for game 1 would then be able to play in the good game.
I am all for it. I have no issue since most colleges start in August. I think with the extra week, it now gives teams that option have a 13 game schedule with a bye. My only question, how does this impact the Hawaii/Australia Game rule? Allowing a team to play a week before the official start of the season. Does that rule simply go away?

Here is the USATODAY link http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nca.../96725542/
so looks like would go into affect for the 2020 season. Which means the '17 and '18 seasons would be the last 2 seasons with 13 weeks to play 12 games. The '19 season is naturally a 14 week season.
I think a 13 game season (or extra round of conference championships - semi-finals) will eventually be on the table too, and so the move to 14 weeks will be a must.

Rationale: More money, but also more money.

Rationale the second:

In a 9 game conference season, with a "tune up" game, a homecoming game and a nice neutral site game, there must still be room for OOC rivalry games.

Rationale the 3rd:
If the 13th game is option, then
1) Some teams can choose to rest and take a second bye and hope a 12-0 or 11-1 record is enough (plus whatever championship game stuff happens)
2) Some teams can play the extra game to solidify their case for the playoff, etc.
3) Some teams can play gimmee games for bowl eligibility.
4) Some teams can play national/regional relevant games that wouldn't get played otherwise.
5) Bowl eligibility could move to 7-6 or 7-5.

Example: In a future where OK moves to PAC/SEC/Big 10 without OK State/Texas, the 13th game would help them play their rivals.

Example: Auburn/Georgia could make their rivalry with Clemson more permanent.
Ugh, I hate double bye seasons.

Teams play in November and August when weather is not ideal for football. Then take saturdays off in september and October which is ideal football weather. Or take 2 Saturdays off in a row so they can play on Thursday night. No thank you.

Oh another way to create a double bye season. Get rid of the CCG.
God help the fans and players asked to play day games in the South with an extra game before Labor Day.
They should start the season in basketball a week earlier as well so that schools can play up to 2 more games. It will give conferences with 11-12 teams the opportunity to play a true double round robin.

November isnt ideal football weather? CFB and NFL have been playing in Nov and Dec for 80-100 years. 95 degree days are not ideal for football.

Just tell the TV guys no if they ask for day games in August. Arizona and Arizona State don't play day games at home in August or September.
2 weekends off plus 2-3 non-P5 teams allows for rest, learning and preparation.
Might be the linchpin for the expanded playoff if they ever renege the extra bye week, but I would be against that, and that is probably in the agenda of the NCAA anyway (getting rid of the Bowls for a controlled playoff). That's what the NCAA really wants.

Keep the season as is. Nobody wants to see a bunch of cupcake games in the middle of summer where players have an extra week of potentially suffering from heat stroke.
I think there's enough Byes to cover things. Don't like the idea. I see teams having two byes (or pretty much the same as 2 byes). Why force more empty time? If the players need it / want it due to injury and stress where it would act as an Effective breather -- great.

If it's for other reasons mainly for Admin-only sake, then no.
Here's the start dates we'd be seeing-
2020- Aug 27 instead of Sep 3
2021- Aug 26 instead of Sep 2
2022- Aug 25 instead of Sep 1
2023- Aug 24 instead of Aug 31(earliest possible start date)
2024- Aug 29
2025- Aug 28

So would we see the Hawaii exemption games played the week prior to these dates or would that exemption be lost?

Well, at least we can agree August is not ideal. Big Ten for years finished before thanksgiving.

Difference between G5 and P5. AState didn't want to move Toledo to a Friday night, got informed that under the contract we didn't have a choice.

Louisiana Lafayette and Boise State played an 11 am on September 3 and actually got lucky with the weather. No cloud cover, 70% humidity, 85 at kickoff, 90 before the end of the game. Easily could have been much worse, based on history there was a one in three chance it would have been five degrees hotter.
I guess practices start a week earlier as well?
