I think this thread crashed CSNbbs for an hour or so!
You've definitely TRIGGERED some of the more fragile it appears
This relates to JMU only in that JMU also has a marching band. There's an Off-Topic board for this.

Glad Comrade Trump found someone to perform at inauguration.

And they have over 8 times the money they asked for! About to be some good times at Talladega.

Yep, but BSKB didn't feel the need to give attention to any of the other bands that are short on fundraising. The rich get richer. What a sheep.

Thanks again BSKB for sharing news that reached across racial boundaries yet still somehow got spun into racism. This post exposed a plethora of enlightenment.

I think it is appropriate here on this board and not some off topic/political page where no one would see it. Yes, I injected some bias in it since Trump supporters are constantly labeled as racists. Here is a case where those very people saw an opportunity to help a black college from Alabama make a dream become a reality. I am happy for the kids and I would do this again. If you don't like it don't read it. If you want to lambaste me, have at it.

No good deed goes unpunished.

What am I supposed to do? search out everyone who has a need in this world? Talladega got national exposure because they wanted to march at the Inaugural Parade. They have been pummeled by snowflakes like you for wanting to participate in a once in a life time opportunity. I contributed and spread the word. What good for humanity have you done recently?
Some here are too thinned skinned. I didn't see anything political at the start of this thread until a few posters began feeling it supported a candidate they do not support. Who cares if the band is playing for a certain president. It is a historic event and kudos to the band for making the trip. They deserve to be there to show who they are. We live in a society that seeks to degrade and destroy everything that is good. We live in a society that does everything in its power to resist and think negatively about everything. We are not a happy people and it shows, even in this thread. No wonder so many people are always negative and miserable.

Hey big shot. Did you give a plug nickel to any of these bands? Nope. You just go trolling through the web site searching for other bands in order to make a political point. For folks like you, charity starts and ends with some one else writing the check I'm guessing. Talk about a sheep.

Bravo BSKB. Thanks for sharing the link. Lefties gonna lefty.
This is going to be a fun 4 years....

A few important points:
1. If you missed the political nature of the original post, you clearly did not actually read the original post.
2. Let's be honest here: The post was made SOLELY to make a political statement, rather than try to provide the means to send a band to DC. Do you know how I know this? At the time of the post, the GoFundMe had already raised $600K of their original $75K goal. They had nearly 10 times the amount of money they needed to go to the inauguration, and yet BSBK felt compelled to make the post anyway. The band no longer needed money. At the time of the posting they had enough money to attend every inauguration until 2048. There was no need to solicit funds at the time of the posting.
3. Let's be honest about another thing: The moderator on this board isn't doing their job. There's an OT board for exactly this type of post, yet our moderator disregards this fact and lets any old post hit the main board. My message to the mod: please do your job or hand over the responsibility to someone who will. I'm willing to take on the job if nobody else wants it.
4. Feeling this way doesn't make someone a "special snowflake", or a "left wing nutjob" (BSBK) or a "Tolerant Leftie" or "Idiot" (91alum) or "fragile" (South Carolina Duke) etc..... It simply means that some people want the JMU board to focus on JMU topics. We're all Dukes here...there's no need to stoop to name calling.
5. If people want to post/discuss/support other feel-good topics, it seems that everyone here completely supports that. However, the majority of people seem to feel that there's a better place for this type of post. It's easy to find the OT board....it's actually at the VERY TOP OF THE PAGE first page. I challenge those who want to support something with a political to use that forum going forward. Please, for the love of the Dukes, do this going forward.
6. Go Dukes.
You are a conspiracy theorist. My sole purpose was to share the story of this Historically Black College being crucified for wanting to participate. JMU is a huge band college and we talk all things bands on here all the time. We just spent 3 weeks discussing only sending a couple hundred of our band members to Frisco. I sent $25 to the GoFundMe account and challenged our own MRDs to help out Talladega. As Hburg said, it was some of you who made a big political issue of it. You need to learn to let some things roll off your backs instead of arguing.

For those of you who saw fit to contribute, God Bless you. To those of you who want to make this an ugly thing, God Bless you to. No offense to those of you who are Atheists.

Chicagoduke, I will answer your criticism of the moderator not "doing their job." Yes you are correct there is an OT board for these type of topics. When this board was created, the original posters wanted the OT post to be on the main board. It was decided that no OT post would be moved to the OT board unless the OT thread has become less popular. This was a promise made at the very beginning and therefore as long as I am the moderator of this board, I will keep my word (unless of course the general consensus feels that the OT threads should be only in the OT board). I am sorry you are offended, but if a post about a band going to an inauguration is so offensive, then perhaps just ignore the thread altogether.

On topic number 4-the comments with the exception of "Snowflake" is in reference to the comments made on the gofundme page. A political reference, yes, but those views will exist regardless. James Madison was the president of the United States, are we to dissolve the name James Madison and the constitution because it is considered political and polarizing to some?

Chicagoduke, thank you for your criticism and for your opinion, it is much appreciated.

Lastly, if the thread becomes destructive (or any thread), it will be moved, perhaps to the smack thread where no rules apply.
If the thread is destructive? It was destructive from the original post.
His sole purpose of this was to make a political statement. As others have stated, it was a poor attempt at masking it as something else.
Wait, there's going to be a new president?
