Would the SEC ever consider taking these two schools? They are kind of out-of-the-box, but you'd get two excellent basketball schools, and new markets. If Oklahoma stayed with the Big XII or went elsewhere, would the SEC look elsewhere?

I doubt it would happen, but I like the outside of the box idea, and it would definitely be a boost to basketball. Adding UConn would be the SEC's grab at the northeast markets. I actually think as a university they'd fit just fine in the SEC. It would also allow the divisions to reshuffle a bit, maybe sending Auburn/Alabama to the East and Mizzou to the West.

You could break out the divisions as follows:

SEC EAST
UConn
Tennessee
Vanderbilt
Alabama
Auburn
South Carolina
Georgia
Florida

SEC WEST
LSU
Texas A&M
Ole Miss
Miss St
Arkansas
Missouri
Kansas
Kentucky

Can't see it working out that way, but it's interesting. I do think we need to improve our basketball product.
Drop Auburn and Bama from the schedule, and add Kansas, Kentucky, and Mizzou? A&M might be able to win more than 8 games with that schedule.
The value of basketball assets would have to sky rocket faster than Venezuela 'a economy is crashing before that was ever considered

The B1G might be a candidate for that pair not the SEC.
Connecticut is obviously a stretch but I"m all for Kansas. AAU and basketball powerhouse. They bring hardly any market but they are a basketball blue blood. Oklahoma and Kansas may be a perfect pair for the SEC.

Would probably need an OU/OU or OU/Texas combo to get OU to split from some of their rivals. Only way the OU/KU combo happens is if OU comes in at 15 and KU is best option available at 16.
WV & UCONN would be an interesting combo for the SEC. Move Missouri west.

Uh, ....yeah...., nothing quite says, "SEC" like Connecticut now does it?!!!

Lol. I said interesting, not desirable. It would be great for SEC basketball & get the SEC into the northeast. Certainly UCONN football isn't SEC caliber, or even P5 caliber, but their market & basketball would have value to the SEC. Plant a couple SEC football flags in the northeast & what happens? Interesting? I think so. Desirable/preferable? Probably not, certainly not the top choice.
if the SEC wants to double down on basketball schools, then OK/OK State/Kansas/Iowa State is still a great grab.

Completely agree - IF basketball is the only goal.

Add these schools, football 2 divisions:

West: Iowa St, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas A&M, Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky
East: Mississippi, Mississippi St, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida

3 divisions:

West: Iowa St, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas A&M
Central: Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St, Alabama, Auburn
East: Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida

I actually think OU and OSU is the most likely combo. Perhaps we go after KU, but I'm not sure.

In all honesty, it falls pretty easy like this:

SEC takes Oklahoma and Oklahoma State

B1G takes Kansas and UConn

ACC takes Notre Dame and West Virginia

PAC takes Texas, Texas Tech, TCU, and Baylor

I'm not sure the PAC would take Baylor, but other than that...
I guess an interesting plus would be the renewal of the UConn-Tenn series.

Mike Slive defined the parameters for additions:
1. Must add to the bottom line revenue of the other SEC schools.
2. Must be a cultural fit for our conference.
3. Contiguity preferred.

Connecticut misses on two of those and possibly all three. The SEC payout this year is $40.1 million. Does UConn add to our bottom line? Probably not. Their football just doesn't generate enough interest or revenue. Kansas might not even be able to add to that. I think your suggestion is D.O.A.

The number of schools who can add enough to join are now down to 4, outside of Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan etc.

Texas, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Virginia or Virginia Tech. So if we expand we will get at least one of those, and likely not North Carolina or a Virginia school since ESPN wouldn't pay for it. The question is if we can only acquire one of Texas / Oklahoma would we take a tag-along? It depends on the total package value. Right now that's looking less likely as well.

In that group of five, it's all about OU. I would love to add VT, but there is no desire or need on their end; plus their GOR is extended with the ACC Network getting ready to launch.

SEC's most likely scenario is adding OU and OSU. We could add a couple more B12 schools then depending on what Texas wants to do. The B12 might be too weak at that point to earn a competitive P5 TV contract.
I actually like the idea of Kansas in the SEC.

I would love to see the Missouri-Kansas rivalry return.

Also think they could separate from KSU if needed.
