Quote:1992 Final Four Team Being Honored on Feb. 4
Jan. 9, 2017

CINCINNATI – The 25th anniversary of the University of Cincinnati men’s basketball 1992 NCAA Final Four team will be celebrated at the UConn game on Feb. 4 at Fifth Third Arena. Tip time for the game will be announced about 10 days prior to the event.

Fans can meet members of the team and gather autographs two hours prior to tipoff in the fourth floor lobby of the Lindner Athletics Center next to Fifth Third Arena. Members of the squad also will be recognized during the game.

The 1991-92 team finished 29-5 overall, winning a share of the Great Midwest Conference regular-season crown and claiming the league’s tournament title before making the program’s sixth Final Four appearance. The Bearcats were led in scoring by guard/forward Herb Jones (18.8 points per game), guard Anthony Buford (15.3) and guard Nick Van Exel (12.3).

// WEAR RED THURSDAY VS. SMU

Fans are encouraged wear red at Thursday’s “Ring of Red” game when No. 22/22 Cincinnati plays host to SMU. Tip time is set for 9 p.m. ET at Fifth Third Arena. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-877-CATS-TIX or by logging online at GoBearcats.com/tickets.

The Bearcats will be wearing special ArmouRED uniforms developed by Under Armour, the official outfitter for UC Athletics. The uniforms were revealed on Jan. 5.

Fans can purchase the official Gear of the Game at the UC Bookstore.

Fans attending Thursday’s game also will receive a commemorative poster recognizing the greatest moments in Fifth Third Arena history. The poster’s artwork reflects that displayed on this year’s season tickets and honors the 25th anniversary of Cincinnati’s 1992 NCAA Final Four team.

Halftime entertainment will be provided by K9s in Flight frisbee dog show.

Quite a crew.

Seems like another universe now.
Awesome.

BTW, they had me at Frisbee Dogs.
Have they already done the thing where they introduce Fickell at a bb game and I missed it?

I think Thursday's game will be the first opportunity they will have to introduce him. The last home game was Jan 1st and he was traveling back from the CFP.

I have heard that since the dead period is over Wed (?) CLF will be on the road and they are shooting for something at the halftime of the Xavier game for an introduction/speech.
Thanks. That's what I thought, but no mention of it.
Wish Barwin would come. Best line at a halftime, "If Xavier had a football team, we'd kick their a$$".
Hopefully we can get some version of a 1990's era throwback for that game. I almost wish they would have saved the 1992 Final Four squad celebration for the Memphis game later in the season. Cincinnati-Memphis was the rivalry during that period that is most associated with this group. If the every want to bring back SK or any other Mick era players or teams then UConn is the rivalry I associate with that group.

That's a great point. Hell that season alone UC beat Memphis 4 times including the elite eight. Nick Van Exel owned Penny Hardaway. I was too young to fully appreciate it, but I remember watching the tournament games (going to several regular season games). I remember the party we were at for the Michigan game and the disappointment of blowing the late lead. I really remember kicking Memphis's ass in the tournament.

It's amazing how much more I remember of specifics even from the next season. From then on it's like I remember certain UC games on a play by play basis. That UNC game being one of the big ones. I consider that UC final four team to be the first team I was really a fan of. Been a lunatic for UC sports ever since.

I have been working on getting confirmation.

I recall Huggs saying that Hardaway, while right-handed, almost always scored by going left, whether he was driving or shooting. So UC forced him right every time and pretty much shut him down. That was counterintuitive, and few if any teams did it.

Daughter and son-in-law. Sorry!
If that punk James Voskul didn't come off the bench and save Michigan, the Cats win that game. The Fab 5 was all but defeated....Jalen Rose kept dribbling into the heart of the trap and they looked clueless and shell shocked most of the first half.
