Soft Houston still #5, hahaha.

I did get a chuckle out of the ESPN-2 announcers during the championship game making reference to "the knock on Sam Houston State is they didn't play anybody" (or WTTE).

take out the last 30 seconds of the game, ie - major garbage time, and see above.
no one within one score of us.
The only real #1 in the country, regardless of rubber-stamp polls. The NCAA does not consider the CFP to be an official national championship, after all.

Very impressive stat there. Definitely earned the title on the field. The wins vs Rich/Nova/UNH point to the strength of the CAA and why JMU does not need to over-extend with the OOC schedule.

Yea this along with the locations is VERY impressive!

I think NDSU was easily better than YSU. While in the dome versus a neutral site I never really thought YSU was ever in doubt. Similar defenses, but NDSU had a decent offense.

No doubt. But our D was good enough to make two good offenses (SHSU and YSU) look just plain bad.
I have been a Dukes fan for forty years now and I have to say I think this was the best team ever. Once the defense got up to speed they were invincible. They certainly were a great pleasure to watch this year.

Given the competition there is to work with within the FCS ranks, I will agree. I totally realize that is beyond our control. However, I do believe from top to bottom FCS was stronger 10 years ago than it is today. I do not believe NDSU would have been able to win five in a row if Appy and GA Southern had remained FCS. Again, you must play in the sand box given to you.

Well, we could swap out a D-2 cupcake for an FCS cupcake like SHSU. :-)
There is no argument to made for the 2004 team. They were great and will always hold a special place in our hearts. But, this year's team is by far the best team in the history of JMU. By far. I have seen them all.

I have as well and agree with you 100%. By far.
By the end of the season the team had zero weaknesses. Literally zero. Best ever and will be hard to top.
JMU beat:
#2 YSU...by 14. YSU scored TD with 10 seconds left.
#3 @ NDSU...by 10.
#5 SHSU...by 58. JMU up 65-0 late 3rd.
#8 @ Ticks...by 4- RU scored on the last play of the game.
#11 @ Nova...by 13.
#17 @ UNH...by 3. UNH scored TD with 1:15 left (27 points last 7 min).
#17 UNH by 33. UNH scored with 20 seconds left.
