Did he get hurt from Grayson tripping him too?

No, he got his feelings hurt by Virginia Tech.
Am I too cynical to assume that if Duke struggles in January he'll have continued pain requiring he sit out the rest of the year but if they do fine he'll be back Feb 1?
Embarrassed that Coach K attended West Point.

...LAST in his class.
All jokes aside .... Back issues SUCK.

I just finished a comprehensive 6 week treatment schedule this morning, that helped me avoid surgery. The only positive about that was it gave me a great excuse to be a couch potato during the holidays and bowl "week" specifically. But the pain I endured in the beginning was no joke and damn near debilitating.

I hope Coach K recovers quickly.

Inversion helps. Rolfing* helps. Chriopractor* helps. Manual decompression (door lift type systems) helps. Cryo helps. Regenokine helps A LOT if the pain is inflammation based (swelling, arthritis, etc).

But it isn't something to play around with. We lost an admin on this site to back pain, and the dude was a former OL so it wasn't like he was weak on the pain threshold.

Yeah, I was under chiro care ... my issue was between C5 and 6 in my neck, which caused pain down my left arm -- I tried to ignore it for a while, but it got worse and worse, shooting all the way down to my wrist. Constant, numbing, dull ache, kind of pain. Would wake me up in the middle of the night, so on top of my pain, I was a zombie from lack of sleep ... Anyway ... I did 3 sessions (adjustment, then traction therapy for about 25 minutes) first two weeks, then down to 2 sessions next 2 weeks, then down to weekly.

One thing the treatment did, was almost immediately started showing improvement in the pain levels, and I got a full night sleep at the end of week 1. But ... while the traction and adjustments were helping my neck, it started bugging my lower back from injuries I sustained about 15 years ago ... So we had to be careful not to aggravate those issues. Nightmare.

He showed me how to do some simple things at home for maintenance, like hang on an open door to get decent traction on the spine, or some exercises to strengthen my core, and work the lower back out, keep it from locking up.

It sucks getting old, that's for sure. This kinda crap you used to be able to just "work through". Not anymore ...

I wondered about investing in one of those inversion dealios ... do you know anything about that? Are they worth it?

I haven't tried inversion personally. I've only had chiro care for a car wreck at a weird offset angle that caused the seat belts to not lock up properly. So I had like a twisted spine more or less. Two sessions and I was right as rain. But Joe Rogan, who has had serious back injuries, says inversion helps him a lot. And he does inversion and traction multiple times a week for maintenance.

Back pains can be a serious mess of pain. While I dont have anything as serious as you, I do have a herniated disk that messed up many of my plans the whole fall. I was only able to make it to one SU game all season because I didnt want to have to do all that walking up the hill to get to the Dome, then climbing all those stairs. Every time it would start getting better, something else would aggravate it. Then because you dont want to deal with the pain while engaging in activities, you end up pulling other muscles in the the back and lower thigh areas. I just got back to about 100% maybe a month ago.

I cant say whether or not Coach K is using the back as an excuse like what seems to have happened a few years ago, but I certainly understand how back issues can affect your day to day activities. I dont wish back issues on anyone.

Thanks ... I think I'll look into it. It just makes sense that it would help things out. Until then, I'll do the poor man's stuff the doc showed me.

I can totally relate to that. Glad to hear you're back. I feel so much better that I feel like I am pretty close to 100%. I'll be easing myself into physical activity though. And I am promising myself NOT to ignore the daily maintenance stuff I should've been doing all along!!
