This schedule doesn't have a big name opponent with SMU as the highest rated RPI nonconference team. But they didn't play a lot of cream puffs either. Overall it's a decent nonconference schedule that just didn't go the Mean Green's way.

Before the season started North Texas was my dark hoarse team. Needless to say with an overall record of 3-9 (0-1) they haven't lived up to my expectations. On paper though, they have acquired a lot of talent thru transfers. Take a look at the roster
5'9" G Tyara Warren (Rs So) from West Virginia. (Sat out last year)
5'9" G Grace Godohart (So) from Loyola University Chicago (played last year, eligible this year, did not sit out)
5'7" PG Kelsey Criner (Sr) from New Mexico Junior College. Last season was on the Con USA All-Defensive Team
6'3" Justis Szczepanski (Rs SO) from Baylor. She is red shirting this season. Should be very good for next season.
5'10" Stabresa McDaniel (Rs JR) from Univeristy of Minnesota. Sat out last year. This year has yet to play. Don't know why....
5'10" Terriell Bradley (Rs So) from University of Kansas. Sat out last year, avg 11.2 ppg this season.
6'1" Tosin Mabodu (Jr) from Murray State College (junior college). Last season pulled down a career 7 boards against ODU.
6'3" Micayla Buckner (Rs So) from Collin College . Two seasons agao she suited up for Baylor but never played.

All of these transfers came under head coach Jalie Mitchell, who is entering her second year of the program. These are good programs that the coach is recruiting from. I thought with all of this talent there overall record would be better. Usually when a coach accepts a lot of trasnfers it is because they want to improve the team in a hurry.

Starting Five
#23 Terriell Bradley 5'10" Rs So G 11.9 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 33.6 FG%, 32.6 3P%, 81.0 FT%, 25.3 mpg
#30 Tosin Madbodu 6'1" Jr F 3.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 0.2 apg, 68.4 FG%, 71.4 FT%, 10.6 mpg
#01 Tyara Warren 5'9" Rs So G 6.3 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 0.8 apg, 31.0 FG%, 25.0 3P%, 63.0 FT%, 20.0 mpg
#03 Kelsey Criner 5'7" Sr PG 9.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.8 apg, 2.3 spg, 39.4 FG%, 32.1 3P%, 61.5 FT%, 30.4 mpg
#20 Terra Ellison 5'11" G Sr 9.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 0.8 apg, 53.4 FG%, 16.7 3P%, 1.000 FT%, 30.5 mpg

So to recap four out of five starters are all transfers. This team doesn't bring much that we haven't seen before. Ellison is coming off a double double game against Charlotte. The one thing that stands out when you look at the stat is the there assist to turnover ratio. They have 122 assist (or 10.2 per game) and they have give up 229 turnovers (19.1 per game). There assist to turnover ratio of 0.53...or to put another way, for every one assist, they have give up two turnovers is dead last in conference USA.

ODU lost. They were getting beat to loose balls and rebounds.

Edit, Got the results a little off, LOL. Started cooking on grill and watching Skins in the 4th. Hard game to watch. Very lack luster performance.

I believe ODU lost 65-55.
turnover after turnover = a lost
26 turnovers against a 3-9 team. I guess we are stuck with Karen until her contract runs out?
For those of you who listened to the game on the radio, they didn't have time to interview KB after the game. But her postgame interviewed was done at the Super Pit and put on the internet. It's not a bad listen....I was expecting her typical "learning experience" excuse. Here she points fingers and will actually tell you what we did wrong....

Rebounding. Offensive rebounds lead to second chance points. NT had 16 offensive boards that gave them 20 points. ODU had 10 off boards with 7 points. But here is the thing, that stat is only true in the first quarter. NT scored 9 points off 5 offensive boards to our 1 point off 2 boards. After that we matched pretty well on the offensive glass. But we created a hole that we should not have gotten into. This is also where Ajemba is missed.

Turnovers by quarter: 8, 6, 6, and 6. As was mentioned many times, 3 of those turnovers in the 4th quarter came from Simms in the last 1:41 of the ball game. Look...I'm a Jennie fan. But our team relies on her way too much. So much pressure is on her to lead us. She has taken 227 shots this season...the next highest shot attempts on the team is Young with 133. They put Criner, who was on the Con USA All Def team last year on Simms and dared us to find another player to step up. That didn't happen... As a team though, 26 turnovers is way too much.
