That's crazy.
Large markets and strong attendance apparently do matter.

We should be delighted.
To me this is indicative of the fact that there are way too many bowl games. I feel that it's counterproductive. Makes it seem like the ole "here's your surprise honey, for competing".....

I want going to a bowl game to be relevant. I want us to play in the Orange Bowl (or others like that). Big crowds, large TV viewing. The Bahamas Bowl was fun to watch. The fans had a great time. But, I want us some day to be there in Miami, or Phoenix, Dallas, New Orleans etc. So we recruit well, play hard, wind games and do our best. Some day (maybe).
Also they played Army already and won.
I get so sick and tired of people complaining about bowls. I love college football and I love bowl games. If you like watching football.....enjoy them, its better than watching Christmas movies in the slow weeks surrounding Christmas. Who care what the teams records are?

I will say I personally enjoy the P5 matchups or when the P5 takes on G5. It makes it intriguing to watch moreso than BC/Maryland. Army and North Texas actually care about this game and are playing hard.

Attendance is becoming less and less relevant.

For the carriers, it is about media ratings, including internet streams, and thus advertising and sponsorship exposure.

For the colleges/universities themselves it is about exposure, which helps areas such as academic recruiting, potential research alliances, and grant monies.

For the program it increases exposure for recruiting. This also has a positive "trickle down" effect for other sports.
The increased practice time is invaluable.
Bowls also lead to an increase in althletic donations, both from individuals and corporate entities.

For the players it is a reward for a season of hard work.
04-cheers
I just want to watch as much college football as I can. I've watched at least a portion every Bowl game that I've been able to.

I can assure you that bowl game for Boston College meant the world to them. The football program has been a mess since they fired Jagodzinski because he interviewed for the head coaching job for the NYJ.
