I'm not sure any of those guys are as talented as Bentley, except maybe DeAndre Johnson.

I understand he has the "chance to compete," but he's behind the 8-ball to at least one guy that is a class behind him.
Sorry it didn't work out here for SB
Hope he finds PT wherever he transfers. Seemed like a class act.
Not surprised. I wish him the best where ever he lands.

This. +2
Who is the favorite to start next year?
Sucks he wasn't built up so much. The SC player of the year award and the "next taylor heinecke" talk really did him no favors.

Good luck to him wherever he ends up.

There was no competition for redshirt freshman SB when named the starter in spring camp 2015. Joey Verhaegh was out with a hurt shoulder, walkon Blake LaRussa enrolled a few months before camp and David Washington focus was on wide receiver.

Coaches should have pulled the plug on DW at wide receiver during summer camp and turn his focus to QB in 2015. 2015 season could have turned out a little differently
Shuler is going to be successful. He has a strong arm and a good head on his shoulders. I felt like he needed to work on his accuracy and touch. There will be quite a few schools interested in him.
He redshirted his freshmen year. Must he sit out next year if he transfers to another FBS school?

Good luck SB.
Not if he graduates first.

Wilder did more than just announce his starter, he added quite a bit of hype to it. So much that we were all duped into anticipating the 2nd coming.

I wish Bentley the best of luck.
I think he will end up at a FCS school. Even if he graduates this spring, he will be behind the 8 ball and most FBS schools will want someone in place this spring.

Either way, I hope he has a chance to finish his college career in a way that allows him to go out with a bang
We need to remember that when Bentley was announced as the starter Verhaegh had been injured, and the only competition at that point was LaRussa. Washington was still a WR.

Of course Wilder was going to say good things, he was about to roll with a redshirt freshman. What's he going to say?

Perhaps the fans should remember that the job of the coach is not to get expectations out of whack (because, honestly, all that does is come back to haunt you--right Rex Ryan?) but to get his players where they need to be. Perhaps Bentley was the kind of kid that needed to hear those things.

Wilder's quotes saying things like "He's clearly the best QB in the spring" wasn't really over the top hype, it was likely a reflection of the fact that Bentley's competition for that was a walk-on and an injured JUCO.
As a person SB seems like a class act. From a football perspective he nosedived the ball ever other pass it seemed. I do wish him well and that he ends up on a team with very short WRs so they can catch the nosedives.

Is this really needed? Adding anything? Its not only hyperbole, but flat out wrong.
I believe Bentleys younger brother is playing today for South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl.
Wish him the best, first class person. Hope he finds a place to excel in football, know he'll do fine in life.

I listened to the end of that game. SC ended up losing in OT, but at the end of regulation, the younger Bentley was something like 32-41 for 380 yds. He's the real deal and a true Freshman that didn't play until like the 6th game.
