Rich Skrosky has resigned after three seasons as #Elon's football coach to join Butch Davis' new staff at Florida International. #CAAFB
Bold move cotton. Let's see how it pays off for him.
When FIU and FAU play one another, it should be called the Slime Bowl.

Elon names Curt Cignetti from D2 Indiana (PA) as their new head coach.

I agree. For Elon, it is a very good hire.
He was part of Nick Saban's 2009 Alabama National Championship coaching staff. He's 53-17 in six seasons at IU-PA and those six seasons clearly show he isn't looking to immediately jump around on your program either with any semblance of success.

Had solid progression of win/loss records. He went 6 - 5 in 2014 all others were very good. Elon had a couple good teams when Appy was in the middle of there three year dynasty of FCS, but didn't maintain their competitive ways but for those few seasons. Love to see them step it up.
Yeah looks to be a very good hire by Elon. Cignetti started out as a grad assistant at Pitt, followed by short stops at Davidson, Rice, and Temple. Was an assistant at Pitt (7 seasons), NC State (also 7 seasons), followed by Alabama (4 seasons) as their WR coach & recruiting coordinator signing classes loaded with 4 & 5 star recruits. Cignetti looks like he elevated IU-PA a notch or 2.
IU-PA 3 seasons prior to Cignetti:
2008 8-2
2009 5-6
2010: 6-5
Under Cignetti:
2011: 7-3
2012: 12-2, lost qtrfinals Div 2 playoffs.
2013: 9-2
2014: 6-5
2015: 9-3 lost 2nd round Div II playoffs to Shepherd 17-13, who made it to NC game.
2016: 10-2 lost 2nd round Div II playoffs.

A WV grad. Wonder if he applied for the JMU job last Jan? If he did he wasn't a name we heard or one of the 3 finalists..
Cignetti is a great recruiter. He knows NC well. With experience recruiting in both PA and NC, he'll have Elon competitive.

Guys, it's "IUP" not "IU-PA". My parents both went there and I was born in Indiana, PA.

About the hire, they've got a very good program there at IUP so it sounds like a solid hire to me.
Elon will still stink. It's what they do.

Lots of starters this year were freshmen and soph. Their running back will be pretty good.

I disagree. I think he can make Elon a middle of the pack CAA program in relatively short order (2-3 years). The Dukes need to not overlook them.

Elon was a powerhouse in Division II but other than their good seasons during the Landers/Dudzik/Thorpe era it hasn't translated to FCS success.
Shepherd actually lost to NW Missouri State in the championship game in 2015 34-7.

Cignetti has put together a decent staff at Elon. He snagged Lehigh's OC away from the Mountain Hawks.

Wonder if Houston knows much about this guy. Wouldn't he have still been at Lenoir Rhyne around that time?

20 carries for 186 yards. I guess he did get pretty good.
