The LM will play in the Florida Sunshine Classic, located in Winter Park, Florida. They will play at Warden Arena on the campus of Rollins College. Rollins is a division II school so it is a big deal to host a touranment with big name basketball programs. (Texas A&M will be there as well)

As everyone knows, last season UCONN won the national championship game. The team that they beat will take on the LM this Tueday in the opening game. The Syracuse Orange are a nationally ranked team (19/18) and this will be another challenging game for ODU.

The offense starts with Peterson. She is on the Preseason list for the John R Wooden Award, given to the nation's most outstanding player. Both Peterson and Sykes are 1,000 point career scorers. Briana Day should get 1,000 rebounds in her career later in the season. (Her twin sister is Bria, #55 on the team) All in all, it's an extremely impressive team with a lot of weapons that make it challenging to guard. As a team, Syracuse ranks 13th in the nation in scoring.

Part of the reason for this team's success is the three ball. They are a dangerous three point shooting team. 42.5% of the team's overall shots are from beyond the arc. Cooper, Grant, and Jullia Chandler shoot nothing but threes. Peterson and Sykes both shoot above 40% from beyond the arc. That leaves a player like Day to the dirty work down below. You can't play zone for a long period of time against this team because they will spread out the defense. The threes will come like rain.

On defense they love to trap the ball. As a team, Syracuse averages 12.5 steals a game. That ranks tied for 14th in the nation.

Against Hampton our defense allowed 9 threes. Now we face a team loaded with three point specialist. We have to do a better job and not give up open looks. It's going to be a challenge. Peterson and Simms will be a fun match-up on offense. But the problem is the Orange have more consistent offensive shooters than just Peterson. ODU will have to play 40 minutes of defense and bring the offense. Good news, it's a neutral court. Bad news. It's a really good team. In terms of talent this is a huge step up from VCU and Hampton.
Final Score: Syracuse 92. ODU 66.

The stat KB wanted to focus on at the end of the game. ODU bench: 34, Orange 8. Our bench scored over half our points. Keyana Brown lead all ODU scorers with 14 points thanks to 4 threes, Simms had a season low 13 points, and Ashley Jackson had 11 points in 15 minutes of play. We can say that we out rebounded the Orange 36-33. But in a game like, that doesn't matter too much.

ODU had 31 turnovers which lead to the Orange scoring 41 points. The ball was stolen from us 22 times. (part of that, bad passing) ODU's three point "defense" allowed 12 threes in this game. That is important. You see the team that we play tomorrow, the Dayton Flyers beat Texas A&M 74-57 and they made 12 threes, the most the Aggies have ever allowed in a single game. So moving pat the...we played really bad...let's take a look at the Flyers....

The Flyers have played in three games where they lost by three points and one game where they lost by four. So they are better than there overall record indicates.

The team’s starters will play the entire game. Harris and Grant-Allen are the strength down low. The rest of the team loves to shoot the three ball. They are a solid rebounding team overall.

The head coach is Shauna Green. Green was the head coach of Dayton from 2012-2015. But she left Dayton for one season to be an assistant coach at Northwestern. Now she is back in charge of the program. During her first tour of duty she helped lead the program to six consecutive NCAA tournaments.

Losing to Syracuse is a let down for the team. They went toe to toe with Miami and knew they could have won that game. They have been knocked down. It’s a question now of how they will respond. Winning against Dayton will be good for this team.

Doesn't look like it went very well. Lost 69-77.
Karen is not a good coach, Im at a loss for how poorly this team performs despite the good players we have. We barely beat a Hampton team at home that lost by over 30 to JMU. talkin about national relevance, we barely even register in top 6 of Virginia relevance. This team well never make the NCAA tourney again which is sn utter shame since we were in top 3 of NCAA invites just a few short years ago. It is time for a change, I bet Ticha Penichiero would make a significantly better HC.
To Dayton's credit they won the game at the free throw line. 26-for-32, including 17-for-20 in the second half of the game. Dayton outrebounded us 47-34, but the BIG difference was the offensive glass. Dayton grabbed 21 offensive boards to our 12, but it was Grant-Allen who had 10 offensive boards alone. (honestly....that is way too many second chance possession for a single player to have against us) We got beat down low because we couldn't match there 6'5" and 6'3" player. Young had a double-double for ODU (13 points, 11 boards) but she needed a little bit more help out there other than Simms. Simms lead all scorers with 32 points and 9 boards. As a team, ODU had 10 turnovers total...monster improvement from 31 the night before. 6 of those turnovers were on Simms. So the rest of the team had four turnovers for the entire game, that is pretty good. Oigbokie had a solid game with 6 points, 5 boards in 14 minutes of action.

ODU will finish there disappointing non-conference schedule against East Tennesee State University on the road. Last year they won at the Ted. It would be fun to steal one game on the road this year....and give ODU there first victory on the road before conference season starts.
I am not usually one to jump on the fire the coach band wagon, but what is going on with the Lady Monarch's has progressed from bad to embarrassing and I do agree that something has to change. We are loosing to teams with zero pedigree and barely beating teams that we used to crush buy 30 points. I hate to say it, but I think KB has to go.

A year or two ago I would have agreed with you. But today I just don't care.
Looks like her contract is over after next year. Unless the buyout is low, let her finish her contract. New coach is going to have an uphill battle regardless of when he/she starts

Barefoot's contact: Ends 17-18
Sorry...I couldn't get your link to work.

Here is the contract if you want to read it...

https://archive.org/stream/748671-karen-...n_djvu.txt

Lots of interesting stuff. Like if she gets conference coach of the year she gets a $2,500 bonus.

I didn't read anything about a "buy out" option..but I'm not a lawyer....so if are one or understand contracts, please explain...

Thanks. Must not have linked the article correctly. Looks like the contract is up in June 2018.

If you read the contract under section X: Termination without Cause: it appears that her buyout would fall under this catagory so it looks like 50% of base pay.
