No UL fan was unruly or made any rude comment that I saw or heard. I’m not certain the last time I can say that. But whoever does the loud whistle repeatedly when Cajuns are on D is the most annoying fan I’ve ever experienced. It was irritating from across the field at the Dome. I can only image what it was like for those sitting around him. Popular guy, I’m sure. I hope he has chapped lips today.

I posted a message earlier in the week on this board saying to “Beat Louisiana.” I was not trying to cause troubles for LaTech fan, which it seemed to ignite. But at the game, the roster sheets passed out at the gates listed it as “University of Louisiana” and they were referred to as such during the game. Are they or are they not UL? I don’t get why others care if that’s what on their jersey, game programs, and announced.

The Cajun QB is proof that recruiting stars do not always reflect college ability. Dude can't pass consistently.

Speaking of LaTech, I kept telling my wife that UL did not have the athletes we did and it was obvious even during pregame warm-ups. They just looked smaller – plus were too one-dimensional to beat us. One drive with two separate unsportsmanlike penalties, a fumble setting up a score, and an interception setting up another, we should have routed that team for you. Sorry, Tech fan. Wish the score had been worse for you.

Final thought, I wish Nick had been healthy all year, but it is what it is. Enjoyed New Orleans as always. Short drive, good food, and 72 degrees all game long with no rain in the Dome.

C-USA, take care of your bowls and see y’all next year.

I'm pretty sure the guy who whistles so loud came to Hattisburg when we played the Cajuns in baseball last season. He was irritating for sure.
It's confusing but I think the school is UL@Lafayette and their mascot is "Louisiana" or something like that. Some kind of loophole so they can call themselves "Louisiana."

I almost turned that game off at 14-0 because that's what I was expecting. But it was like USM fell asleep after that though. Congrats though.
They want to be called Louisiana, so that will just give them a big (L) thanks USM :)

FWIW, they were referred to on TV as "Louisiana- Lafayette" and "UL-Lafayette" ALL NIGHT LONG by the ESPN broadcasters. I never once heard them referred to as just "Louisiana".

Well, being AT THE GAME, I haven't heard what ESPN said. I will, as I'll watch the dvr soon. I was referencing what I heard in the Dome.

That's because it's a sunbelt bowl. But they are never allowed to use University of Louisiana. They can refer to themselves as Louisiana for sports but never University of Louisiana unless it has Lafayette attached.
Why do y'all care so much? It doesn't affect Tech. For a school that claims to have left them behind, y'all sure seem threatened by this.

I've stated before that I wish our fans would just drop it. Kinda hard to claim we've left them behind when we go ballistic every time someone uses the term Louisiana.
I thought the game was headed for a blowout and then USM went to sleep for a while. Glad the better team won. They have some players but were too one dimensional. ESPN kept talking about ULL QB, and I was thinking this guy sucks, all he is a big running back. The last minute and half of the game was some of the worst time management I ever seen. Looked like a good time for the fans, wish we could have a 2 hour drive to a fun bowl game.

Never seen a another school get worked up about another school's name, like LaTech does. Seen it with abbreviation, with GSUs going at it.
USM was clearly the better team, but a few boneheaded plays kept ULaLa in it. I liked a couple of the personal foul calls because I think even if it costs you a penalty or two, you need to assert yourself against an athletic QB. Once we finally figured out how to contain the QB draw play, it was pretty easy to shut them down. Horrible clock management by both teams. Hops on should be given bonuses after every game for each timeout he doesn't use. Maybe then he'll stop calling timeouts in the first quarter.

Doesn't even come close and I'm pretty sure they've settled into GS and GSU fairly amicably as far as I've seen.
Why does every thread get hijacked by this Southwest Louisiana crap?

Louisiana is one of the few states, maybe the only one in the south, that does not have the state flagship university. Referring to ULL as the University of Louisiana gives them the persona as being at the top of the food chain so to speak although LSU is technically in that position. I think that has a lot to do with it. In my opinion at least.

Tech, ULL, ULM, Nothwestern St, Nicholls St, McNeese St, Southeastern, Grambling, and Southern are all members of a governing board called, "The University of Louisiana System." If ULL calls themselves "The University of Louisiana" it gives the impression that they are the flagship and we are all their *****. ULM would not be a peer, but a branch of UL(L) in Monroe. This is why the ULS made it illegal for them to call themselves "The University of Louisiana", I believe. It's kind of petty, but it is illegal.

Close. Louisiana has three university systems; the LSU system flagshipped by LSU, The Southern University system flagshipped by Southern, and the University of Louisiana system with no flagship. When ULM and ULL renamed their schools in the late 90's it was in agreeance with their boards and the university system that neither would drop the city designation to try and infer that they were the flagship. ULL stuck to their word for about 2 years before they began attempting to drop the second L to see if the ULS board would make them keep their word, which the board picks and chooses (at LSU's discretion) when to step in. Tech takes particular exception to ULL's attempts because Tech has long had the highest academic and athletic prestige in the ULS, so when ULL attempts to portray themselves as the flagship by name and not merit it's a slap in the face to the 122 years that Tech has worked with inferior resources to the flagships of the other two systems to obtain the prestige we currently have.

This is why Tech fans take exception to it. Tech has gone about trying to get flagship status by working hard, ULL has attempted to go back on their word to try and push the narrative that an inferior academic and athletic institution has flagship status because of their name.
I thought it was another game of the Golden Eagles not playing to their potential. We've seen it throughout the entire season, and should not be surprised it happened again. That should have been a 17- 24 point win.

Oh well. Considering where circumstances heading into the final regular season game, I am extremely happy to have a bowl win and a winning season. However, I do think the coaching staff severely underachieved with the team they had this season.
Agreed we should've won by 3 scores but UL-Lafayette capitalized on our 2 turnovers (int and other was a QB sack/fumble) and scored 2 of their 3 TD's with a short field. We had a TD called back due to a holding call and proceeded to miss the ensuing FG on that drive. As other USM fans stated, once our D figured out their gameplan ULL did very little against our D. The O started out strong then went into relax mode until Lafayette tied it up. Overall, it was a good win which gave us a winning season. Now on to the off-season to start preparation for next year's season opener at home against Kentucky.
Ito was pounding out the clock just fine, but then that inadvisable pass by mullins just made the score look closer than the game. Should have been a 3 TD win.

Jennings was shockingly bad at passing the ball.
The ULL fans I talked with were not exactly happy with Hudspeth anymore. As for the game, just more proof that this coaching staff has a long ways to go. Definitely showed improvement the last two games though.
