Per ESPN ticker during JMU game.
At first thought it would be a big slash. Then read this.

Opinion on Lane is that he should wait a few more years and gain more experience under Saban. Patience is key for him.
ESPN reports Kiffin is now head coach at FAU

If for no other reasons, Kiffin and Davis to the FUs are great hires for conference visibility.
ODU is going to have to step it up. Seems like CUSA is in an arms race in both facilities and coaches. Our next coach will likely need to start at least 50% higher than what Wilder makes, and phase 1 of the new stadium isn't going to make enough splash to sway some of the top recruits we will need to win CUSA to come our way. Phase 2 should though.
Phase 2 may be a long way away.

Damn Phase 2. We need to find a way to cultivate those dabloons and build the whole shebang!
Phase 1 on the stadium might not happen. If Wilder leaves ODU, our officials believe they dont have to step it up to be competitve in CUSA, so everything will fall on itself. FAU has Lane Kiffon, effing Lane Kiffion!!! ODU MUST step it up, NOW! I love Foreman Field Phase 2!!!
How does FIU and FAU justify these salaries when virtually no one attends their home games? What's the point?

I am fairly sure they would say that the point is to become successful and INCREASE attendance to home games. Now will that actually happen? I for one doubt it but hope springs eternal and all that stuff.
Attendance is a relatively minor concern in the grand scheme of things.
This will answer some of that question, although the comparison with CUSA is a matter of degree. CUSA can be appropriately scaled.

Quote:Money is guaranteed regardless of how bad the team is or how many fans attend games. Purdue had an average football game attendance of 37,500 in 2015, and in 2016 it barely sold 20,000 season tickets, including students. President Mitch Daniels is correct when he said, "On a relative basis, the number of football seats we sell has never been less important, financially." In other words, attendance does not matter when the school gets free money.

All programs fund their athletics with student fees. Only Virginia and Tennessee are required to break them out and report them specifically.
As it relates to us, Kirk Cox has placed us [ODU] at more of a disadvantage than is likely faced by many if not most other G5 programs.

You are absolutely right. As I reported over a year ago, Cox is no friend of our university and we can anticipate further problems from him when the administration gets serious about building our "new" stadium.

Maybe so, but he screwed JMU even more. They were/are much more on the edge financially then we are.
Additionally they will have to bring any request to go FBS to the Legislature. This completely goes in the face of the traditional behind the scenes "wink wink" "We won't offer you a place in our conference unless we are sure you will say yes" procedure for invite.
Cox has virtually assured his own alma mater of never moving up.
If we had focused on this years ago, he couldn't have stopped us. Now I think the biggest challenge to our potential is how long we wait for phase 2. I'm betting that we won't get there for the VA General Assembly makes another restrictive change.

Sold seats in the absence of TV revenue is VERY important to ODU. And we happen to have a real program builder as head coach and don't seem to want to use him to grow this thing beyond current state. That happens to be what he's best at. In that way, BW is a rarity. Sucks for those of us that want to see ODU grow up beyond the 757.
Their school president could use some public speaking 101. https://www.facebook.com/ConferenceUSA/v...209450741/
Lane Kiffin is such a damn trainwreck everywhere he goes.
Well one thing is for sure, FAU is getting a lot of press right now. Any exposure to our conference is a good thing. I really hope both Florida schools improve with this. We can probably kiss recruiting in Florida goodbye, but at least (hopefully) C-USA as a whole gets stronger out of all of this. That's the next best outcome besides moving out.
