I'm surprised by reading this update, but it seems there is mutual interest between Charlie Strong & Temple about the vacant Head Coaching position.

Interesting.
Surprising. I thought Strong would have been a great replacement at USF, if he was going to go to a G5 school. Florida is where his roots are.
Conflicting reports out now about both Temple and USF in the mix.
Who'd a thunk that Temple could be used as leverage against USF and USF could be used as leverage against USF?

Who'd a thunk that not so many years ago?

A lot has changed for Temple in 10 years.
I would have thought that if Charlie Strong sat out a year, and collected a fat paycheck from Texas, he would have gotten more than a few looks from other P5 programs for head coaching positions. Perhaps he is more interested in coaching than sitting on the couch (to which I would applaud him).

The sooner he turns his tarnished Texas image around at another school like USF (the job he took) the sooner he gets back to a P5 payday and a contract to get him to retirement. In the meantime he collects the equivalent of a P5 salary with his annual Texas buyout minus what he gets from USF over the next several season while repairing that tarnished image. 07-coffee3

Yup. And if he's lucky, the next Texas coach doesn't turn Texas around either, while he does well in his new job, to make it look like Texas is just a toxic place for putting together a winning program.
