Salaries are getting insane...
Chalk up another MAC West title for WMU. They may beat USC and MSU.

Without their Heisman candidate QB, likely first-round wide receiver and a host of other seniors?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Hard to believe. I'm flabbergasted that some attractive offers were not forthcoming. It could still happen.

Doesn't make sense. our coaches get poached and have done nothing but lose the big conference game every year. Fleck goes 13-0 and completely turns around WMU from 1-11 and he doesn't get picked up?

Perhaps he is smart enough to wait for the right offer for his dream job. In the meantime, turn WMU into a respected national program not necessarily the same as what Boise St accomplished under Peterson but 2-3 successive years of top 25 rankings and premier bowl appearances and I would think he gets a top tier P5 job offer

Fleck tubed that 1-11 season. The worst WMU under Cubit was 4 wins.
A program that has averaged 7 wins a season for 8 years all of a sudden
is a 1 win program, I'm not buying it.
1) He's getting paid a million a year at Western. Money isn't tight.
2) Kalamazoo like most of Michigan has deep pocketed old money. Michigan has some of the poorest and most disinvested parts of the country but the greatest number of very rich foundations and benefactors. There's some crazy rich dudes around kalamazoo who will spend money to support that football program.
3) Family situations. Fleck has an ex-wife with shared custody of their kids in Illinois, I believe, and new wife (with her own kid) from Kalamazoo. he also lost am infant child a few years ago tragically and has talked about the emotional ups and downs of that and the importance he places on his kids and family. He is unlikely to leave the area unless some spectacular opportunity arises. I'd say his job radius is Ohio-Michigan-Indiana-Wisconsin which for an upgrade is really (UM, MSU, Notre Dame, OSU, Wisconsin and maybe Indiana, Illinois and NW).
4) Loyalty. Dude is corny but I don't think insincere. He asked a lot out of the kids and department at WMU. He did some crazy stuff and they all bought in and he won with it. There's a very loyal culture there now. If he leaves, especially for a marginal upgrade, i.e Purdue, Cincy, he really tarnishes his legacy and character. He seems to understand that better than some young coaches.
5) Cotton Bowl. This may be the biggest game he coaches, even if he gets a P5 job. Leave this month and he loses all that. Live in the moment, be great, if more is meant to come, it will. Dave Doeren from NIU walked away from an Orange Bowl to go to NC St and is a crappy season away from being a G5 coordinator never having gone to a half decent bowl at NC St. Fleck is an NIU guy. I think he took that in.
Good for P.J.. I don't like some of his antics or WMU, but P.J. obviously has more sense than Beckman or Campbell, who left for the $$$ before they had really accomplished anything.

Rockets had a FB program that was in worse shape than the one Fleck took over. Beckman and Campbell did plenty to rebuild the program and its integrity. Prior to Beckman, 2006-2007-2008 Rockets went 13-23(.361).

True. In fact Fleck took what was a decent program and won 1 game the next season. Won't find many who admit it now, but there were plenty of Bronco fans who aren't enameled with him at that time. Can't argue with his success since that time, though.
Luke Fickell, new UC HC. Lane Kiffin is in serious talks with FAU.
I guess one way to look at is if the right offer didn't come in, stick around in a good situation for more money and see what happens next year.

The caveat: What if next year they go 6-6 and his stock drops? How many seasons does he have to wait it out before that offer comes in?

It's a gamble, but if a good offer doesn't come in between now and the time he re-ups he really doesn't have much choice.
