If USF could manage to get Charlie Strong out of that deal it would not be a bad trade. Taggart to his credit grinded it out at USF, recruiting and getting better every year so good for him if the Oregon job is what he wanted.
Congrats to CWT. Glad to see a fellow Topper have success!

I agree, USF should push hard for Charlie Strong. With his recruiting ties in Florida, he could be a home run hire.
We've been stepping-stoned. 07-coffee3

Ain't that the truth. Three times. Got any more likely to move?
Any news on which staff he plans to retain at Oregon?
Obviously the football powers-that-be have been impressed by the AAC'S strength on the field but for some reason none of them seemed to want to give the conference any credit until the season is over. It appears the past 2 seasons they come for our coaches then the espn shills rave about how great their teams were. If the teams of the latest 3 poached coaches were fairly ranked the AAC would've received the ny6 bowl instead of WMU. Now the cotton bowl ticket prices have crashed and the ratings are going to be a disaster after halftime 07-coffee3
I don't think Strong can take the job per his $10 million buyout.

The buyout is negotiable depending upon Strong's salary @ new job
(Ex: USF HC @ $2mil, Texas's requirement drops $2mil)

Lincoln Riley OC @ OU will B the next coach @ Houston

Strong can take another coaching job. If he does, then what Texas owes him is reduced by half of the salary at his new job - - eg if Strong's new team pays him $3 million/year, then he gets $1.5 million/year less from Texas.

Strong's Texas contract is here if you want to read it: https://hkm.com/football/contracts/charlie-strong/

Hey could take a minimal contract, say 1/2mil per year leaving Texas on the hook for the difference allowing USF to build a cash reserve to pay him p5 money once the longhorn $ dries up, while having the cash to assemble one of the best cast of asst. coaches available. 04-cheers
I don't think it is a very strong hire for Oregon.

Oh yeah.....Tulsa's & Memphis's coach. Frost at UCF. They'll all 3 probably stay at least another year though. This sucks

Cheers!

Sorry guys our coaches and his family just love Memphis to pieces and would never ever leave us even if the job was free03-cloud9
Interesting aside: Western Kentucky has had a pretty nice string of head coaches!

- Taggart, now at Oregon
- Petrino, at Louisville
- Brohm, now at Purdue

Be interesting to see who they hire next.
The Duck fans are not too pleased about this.

He hopes to be gone by then.

I wouldn't be either. They pulled an ECU and fired Helfrich too soon.

Frost isn't leaving for a mid level P5 job. He could have had that already. Like Herman, he'll only leave for top P5 position.
