Wow, is this what it feels like being in their "rear view mirror"?

ODU gets slotted in the Bahamas Bowl (don't forget your passport) against Eastern Michigan, a 1pm kickoff the Friday before Christmas.

Actually, congrats to the hearty Monarch fans. I wouldn't want to trade places but a step for their program.
Not a bad gig for the players, huh?

So ODU won their bowl game in front of about 3K people in the Bahamas. Did they reach the top of the mountain? To me it is relatively anticlimactic considering the new playoff (especially if they expand to 8 teams).

Seems more exciting to vie for a championship run in one way or another than just a single and relatively meaningless game, despite the perception that we are in a lesser division of football.
But they could argue they are the national champion of the Bahamas...and that's BIG time!

From that article, the reporter asked ODU students why games weren't drawing student attendance.

Pilot Online article Wrote:(a reply) from Daniel MacCall, a finance major from Northern Virginia, seemed to hit most of the high points.

He said most ODU students are unfamiliar with C-USA opponents and that home games aren’t as exciting as they used to be.
...
Jake Ayers, an electrical engineering student from Richmond, said many students wish ODU had never left the Colonial Athletic Association and in-state rivalries with Richmond, William & Mary and James Madison.

Wow I love that. Not that I want to see ODU's attendance lag but it's nice to know I'm not the only one who wouldn't trade instate rivalries for MTSU and North Texas.

The move to FBS conferences hasn't worked out for most of our former rivals. My only criticism of ODU's move is I think it came at the expense of their basketball programs.

It's up for debate about football, IMO. They might be eligible for bowl games, but do bowl games for empty seats matter? The energy about their football team is all but gone. The new stadium might recharge it a little bit, but ODU better couple that with lots of wins or people will forget that they have football.
