"I think it's pretty simple. Toledo simply does not have the personnel on defense. They cannot defend a team who has the capability of stretching them sideline to sideline and that has a passing game. They spread out to defend the run, then they get gutted up the middle. They concentrate on supporting the run defense and get killed by a team that can also throw the ball. They were using a cover 2 defense early in the 3rd against Akron. Toledo's O line had a huge weight advantage against Akron's D line and Akron simply wasn't balanced enough to take advantage of Toledo's weaknesses. It's all about match-ups. Maybe Toledo has enough offense to outlast NIU, whose system is to go sideline to sideline and then over the middle. We will see. Toledo should be able to outscore Ball State. WMU is too balanced on offense for the Rockets and will crush Toledo. That's just the way it is this year."
