I cannot disagree.
Y'all are terrible. Like really bad.
That 2000 game still pisses me off. Couldn't believe that with Chester Taylor in the backfield that Toledo decided to throw the ball 50 times!!!
Dont forget 2 years ago they choked away the lead against NIU that would have sent us to Detroit!
nobody needs to remind me about that 2000 game.
Still can't understand the game plan.
We could have ran all day with Chester Taylor and Antwon Mcray.
But we threw a bajillion times instead.

What struck me at the time was Paul Dye's determination not to loose that was in stark contrast to most of the team which came out pretty flat. Western had a very good team that year but if the entire team had played with Dye's determination it would be a easy win. However, I will add that Chester Taylor's last touchdown run in that game was one of sheer will and determination as well.

That was a very, very costly loss----it cost the Rockets a MAC Championship, a bowl game, ultimately a national ranking and, in the end, the head coach and the entire coaching staff (except for Dave Walkowsky (sp?) and, of course, Stutz when he came back as Head Coach). What a shame----that was a great team.
I totally agree. And for additional salt to the wound, in 2000, a six-loss Marshall went to a bowl game which they had zero desire to be at.

A Marshall team that the Rockets had defeated 42-0 earlier in the year. WMU had also beaten Marshall earlier in the year but lost the MACC Championship game (played on Marshall home field as usual, of course---thanks to the bush league MAC) because their head coach Gary Darnell didn't have time to put together a game plan because he was too busy pimping himself for every P5 job that had a head coach vacancy. His pathetic pandering did not succeed in getting him a new job but it evidently did succeed in hurting his recruiting at WMU because the program went steadily down hill after 2000 and after going 1-10 in 2004 Gary Darnell finally got his wish to get out of WMU when they fired him. I thought for sure we were going to get a at-large bid to some bowl that year. Silicon Valley was looking pretty hard at us.
Most disappointing way to end one of the finest season's in Rocket's history.
WMU had a good team. No denying it. But they looked awful in the MACC.
One thing that does give me hope (for WMU, of course) is that Toledo usually knocks off WMU. 5 of the last 6. Yes, Toledo's P!SSED about last year, so obviously the momentum by default is in their favor. Especially with WMU being clouded in the national attention spotlight for several weeks & GameDay distraction being the cherry on top.

With that said though, Toledo has been knocking off WMU consistently over the years. So there's some blowback the other way, too. It all depends on the mentality of WMU coming into this game. The more they're aware & feel this, the less Toledo has the mental advantage. The less the "eliteness" clout over the last several weeks by the press has been on them, the less mental/motivational advantage Toledo will have.

WMU's 1st halves the 1st 3 games have been poor. Not that I'd expect against Kent & Buffalo to be Stellar given the weather, but they were sub-par for WMU when compared to the other team, if WMU IS this undefeated-worthy team late in the season. All in all, I expect Toledo to win the game. I won't be shocked if they don't, but I certainly won't be shocked if they do, and that's where my money is on. :(

Yeah---the Silicon Valley Bowl got everybody's hopes up by sending reps to the Glass Bowl for the last game of the regular season which, although not expected at the time, also turned out to be Pinkel's last game as the Rocket's head coach. This Silicon Bowls folks were talking up their bowl on the local news as if they were going to pick Toledo even hyping their planned half time show featuring Destiny's Child which was the hot group at that time.

It was that bitterly cold game against BG in which Blackney kept calling meaningless time outs and was roundly booed by all the freezing fans in the stands (probably including the BG fans). Anyway the Bowl folks ended up picking a lousy 6-5 Arkansas team over a nationally ranked 10-1 Rocket team. Of course Arkansas' fans were disappointed at a lousy (for them) 6-5 season and most skipped the bowl after which the razorbacks were even a lousier 6-6 team. At least all this made last year's upset win at Little Rock even a little bit sweeter.
2013 basketball revenge as well...
