Interesting from CBS...Projecting Non Division or Conference Champion Ohio State to the CFP ...

It matters because now, if Ohio State -- which I do have projected in the playoff -- and Penn State both win out as expected, it will be the Nittany Lions playing for the Big Ten championship instead of the Buckeyes because of the head-to-head tiebreaker. That means that Michigan's loss changes the projection for Ohio State from a record of 12-1 and a conference championship to 11-1 and no conference championship. That's how a second straight 62-3 win ends up being part of a bad day for Ohio State.

With all that in mind, Wisconsin is now projected to win the Big Ten title over Penn State.

Keep in mind that winning a conference championship is not a requirement to be a part of the College Football Playoff. I believe the committee would still put Ohio State in the playoff in this scenario, but instead of seeding the Buckeyes second, Ohio State would get the fourth seed. The Buckeyes would have a better record, as good of a schedule, and a win over Wisconsin. That should be enough to keep the conference title from being a factor. I think it's a much more interesting discussion for the committee if Penn State ends up as the Big Ten champion.

Yeah, if there's a way to piss off the fans more than this silly system, tell schools who win their conference but not a CCG they can't go, then tell a school that does but has more blemishes than a non-champion they can't, then tap a non-champion to go on in.

I mean, it's shaping up that it could go this way, and Ohio State's a rare exception, but this playoff is already mired in some questionable picks...can it just stick to a script?

Debase the integrity and value of the CCG, and many of us are going to question why there is one. Nothing but risk and proven no reward if it goes this way with OSU/PSU/Wiscy.

Cutter, the reason we have CCG's is to make money. CCG as a playoff resume builder is a recent concept.
You may be a wee bit early in criticiing the playoff picks, since there aren't any. Technically, Alabama isn't even in yet.
I don't know; I think CCG winners hold a lot of water. If not in it then ut oh.

I think far more fans would be upset if OSU didn't win Conference title and was left out, and 3 loss USC or 2 loss Oklahoma(who OSU destroyed) made playoff.

Weren't you the one adamant the past few years that the Committee was rightfully giving much weight to conference champs over non-champs in playoff consideration?

What changed your mind?

wasn't me. Only thing I've said is that if we go P4, odds are good that if it stays at 4, that it's champions only. But in the current system, best teams should be in, regardless.
I don't think PSU should be eligible for the playoff. They won a tight game at home to OSU, they were blown out by UM, bad loss to Pitt. Give them the Rose Bowl if they win out and OSU beats UM, but OSU should be in the playoffs over PSU.

I would need to see PSU beat Wisconsin 35-3 to have a change of mind. I do think Wisconsin has done enough as a two loss team to slip in there, close losses to both OSU and UM.

I think PSU would deserve it more than Washington. Sorry, but I do not want to see a team that schedules OOC like that garbage rewarded at all. Think I saw by 1 measure they were the WORST FBS team in OOC SOS. You have to work hard to do that. I want good OOC games. Washington gets in, and teams will schedule softer and softer.
But....They wouldn't have that 13th data point that the other teams will have.....
Washington needs a miracle. You have to look at Clemson and UL who actually have or potentially have a decent OOC win. I think if Temple wins the AAC that can put PSU over the top. But I like that potential Houston win for UL. Style points will matter. Clemson and UL should get in over PSU as it currently stands.

Wisconsin deserves the bid if they take care of business. PSU really needs to blow out Wisconsin like OSU did a couple years back and make that statement. Otherwise the Rose Bowl will suffice.
