I found this old thread in the CUSABBs archives, and I was wondering if someone could update the map
http://csnbbs.com/thread-551915.html

Georgia Tech needs to have a dot near Atlanta, and even though I am a Georgia fan, I will admit that Auburn has a lot more fans in the state of Georgia than this map shows and Tennessee does too. Also, Texas A&M has a lot bigger of a fan base than the map shows also. ND's fan base in the Northeast & California is not shown and neither is BYU's fan base in California. You could say the same for Navy, Army, and Air Force too. Ohio State & Michigan also have fan bases in Florida as well.
How does one "update" something that made no sense in the first place?
Make it make sense.
They need to analyze more. Notre Dame, BYU, Army, Air Force and Navy have national fanbases 4X. Also, who does Alaska root for?
Speaking of maps.
Would love to see a map of all the D1 football schools.

Blue for P5
Green for G5
Red for FCS scholarship schools
Yellow for Pioneer League and IVY League

Orange for possible D1 football schools who may add or upgrade to D1.
Although humorous, this is a somewhat accurate way that the state of Georgia is divided up. http://Http://theantiorangepage.com/aogallery/Gameday-Comics/2004-Gameday-Comics/20040831
Map from the NY Times on the subject

Okay, that map is crap...where's UNM in New Mexico 4X? LOL

You need to use logic with automatic responses.
Wyoming must be some kind of record when it comes to fans per square mile.
Yeah, the fewest...
This site hasn't been updated since 2010, but other than Arkansas State being the dominant team in Arkansas, it is pretty accurate.

If you look closely they list Auburn, and wait for it....Tulane in New Mexico. Tulane gets no representation (according to this map) in their home state, but they've got a rabid fan base in Loboland huh? bawhahaha

Cheers!

They messed up by listing Arkansas St in Arkansas when it clearly should shown a big Wonder Boys of AT logo across all of Arky, a little bit of TX and a little bit of Kansas.
Cheers!
how does UConn get southeastern New York?

Believe it or not, that map is actually one of the most accurate maps I've seen on CFB bases. While some things are a little crazy (no one in New Mexico likes the Lobos??? Auburn & Tulane have fans in New Mexico???), the rest are pretty accurate. Didn't know Stanford had such a huge nationwide fan base!!!

Some of those Western states are so sparsely populated that literally ONE family of fans of any given school can sway the needle...

That map only uses 3,462 responses. There are about 3,100 counties in the USA. So that map is pretty silly.
Here is that same map with the actual responses mapped out by county. They said they got about 4,000 responses before they "cleaned up the votes" to leave them with 3,462 votes.
