This is off topic but I'm getting ready to rent out some audio equipment for the Halloween weekend. Do any of you know if I can get away with writing my own contract?
As a general rule it's not a very good idea to give out legal advice on an interwebs message board. Most attorneys steer clear. Their liability carrier normally appreciates that.

You're a smart guy. If you're asking this question you probably already have some concerns.
Do you have a legal plan as part of your benefits package? Also go take a look a LegalZoom, they have a bunch of pay as you go options

Otherwise, there are a lot of contract lawyers out there looking for work. My guess is that you could ask around locally and find someone who could provide a contract or contract review for $250 to $350.
I downloaded this contract from this website https://rentalbookingsoftware.com/free-e...-template/

It looks legit. My hope is that the contract will look legit enough that the person will not even think of stealing my stuff but at the same time, I want to make sure I can actually use it to force them to pay me back in court or save me from liability.
Anyone?
Sorry I'm not going to give you legal advice on here. Aside from the malpractice considerations, I'm only licensed in Illinois and familiar with IL contract law, and although contract law can be pretty similar from state to state, there can be difference w/r/t enforceability and interpretation of clauses.
