Neinas gave a possible process that may be guiding the Big 12 Presidents meeting.

Last time the Big 12 expanded, it relied on information from outside consulting firms before sitting down with the league's television partners — who can provide their own thoughts on the process — before the three-person expansion committee gave its recommendations to the school presidents and chancellors.
In the end, it was up to the Big 12 school administrators to make a decision.
"... The presidents accepted the recommendation of the committee," Neinas said.
Neinas believes the league will expand again this time around and Big 12 leaders will rely on far more information than just public campaigns to make their decisions.
"They haven't quite crossed the bridge, but they're most of the way there," he said.

For his part, Neinas says he'd take Cincinnati and Houston. The 84-year-old administrator still runs a coaching search firm out of his Colorado home.
"You should expand East because, if you take BYU, man, this is very difficult," Neinas said. "Take Cincinnati because they can be a [travel] partner with West Virginia. Houston, under the current circumstances, because they are a growing program. I don't think [Houston's current success] is a one-night stand."

Says the guy (speaking of Neinas) who passed on Louisville.
In Neinas defense he still had to do what Texas told him. Dodds can try and change the narrative by claiming "Texas was for Louisville." The truth is everyone knows better. Boren pushed UofL, Jurich visited Austin, kissed Dodds ring and it got Louisville nowhere with The Big 12.

I hope The Big 12 does expand. I still can't help but think that The Big 12 needs to add at least 4 teams to insulate themselves from a program or two leaving sometime down the road.

Bowlsby needs to push Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis and Central Florida to The Big 12 Board of Presidents. If The Big 12 doesn't expand or chooses to expand with two, it might be looked at down the road as too little too late.

......and placed Butch Davis and John Blake at Carolina.

And...........that seems to have worked out for the Cardinals so you should be thanking Chuck.

Thank GOD...So glad we are now in a stable P5 League with a coming ACC Network and a solid GoR that last the next 20 years....the Big XII while a good league is currently on the outside looking in seems completely dysfunctional ...07-coffee3

If they "Truly" want stability add USF, UConn, Houston and Cincinnati...improves Basketball...gives a bridge to WVU...Expands TV market into the NE, Ohio and Florida...07-coffee3

The story I was told was that Big XII didn't "pass" on the Cardinals, rather the Big XII was in agreement to take Louisville but couldn't agree on #12 and without agreement on #12 opted to not expand. That's not the same thing as saying we don't want Louisville, it's saying we don't want to be at 11.
It is my understanding that the reason the Big12 passed on Louisville was because the TV networks told them Louisville did not move the needle.
The Louisville thing was all politics and favors.

UL was set to be added, but then WV's AD stormed in and said "Hey! You guys owe me!! I was about to save your drowning a___es (speaking to Iowa St/KU/KSt/Baylor) with a lifeline to the Big East. Now we're about to be stuck in a non-BCS Big East!" So ISU/KU/KSU/Baylor said they would refuse to vote for anyone other than WV.

That's what I think happened, behind closed doors.
The talk in 2011 was that FOX preferred WVU to Louisville.

Thank You FOX...04-cheers...Love being in the ACC and in the same Division as FSU & Clemson in Football and the same Basketball league with Syracuse, UNC & Duke..04-cheers

Baylor was never in that agreement it was the Kansas schools plus Iowa State and Missouri.
Well regardless, that's why I think WV got in. Their AD had worked on throwing those schools a lifeline to get into the Big East, when it looked like Texas et al were leaving for the PAC.

So when that didn't happen and he saw a chance to leave the Big East, he called in the favor.

Pulling that right out of my ____, as you can tell. There would never be proof of this, unless they were dumb enough to email/text about it and someone decided to FOIA the records (if they still exist).

Stability for the Big 12 means Texas leaving the conference.

Right, but that also means stability as a G conference not a P5 conference.

In 2011, after the Big 12 was raided, it badly needed to boost its football brand for the upcoming TV deals. WVU, which had been to and won BCS bowls, was simply a bigger football brand at that time.

WVU and TCU were, like Houston right now, just the hottest football brands available, other than Boise, and Boise had and still has unique baggage that knocks it out.

Add them to which league? Certainly not the ACC, because that would truly be crazy talk!
I like the Cincy/UH outcome. Reasonable geography, good athletic potential (or at least as good as anyone out there), decent budgets. And most importantly, would put expansion to rest. If they don't expand, this continues to hang over their heads. Not to mention the short term negative optics of the whole song and dance. A modest expansion is the best middle ground.
