The SEC is a great conference home. We are like a family. Our sibling rivalry is there but not necessarily a distraction to the family business. Florida and L.S.U. have become a distraction to the family business, but because a 24 year old hurt has festered with this permanent rival crap. We need to add two more, do it soon, and move Missouri west and Alabama and Auburn east, and end this mess.
With a free rotation out of division and a round robin in division we have the fairest possible scheduling available. Even should we go to a 3 permanent rival scenario with no divisions we will still have Tennessee for instance claiming both Kentucky and Vanderbilt as natural rivalries they need to maintain. Alabama would likely claim Mississippi State. The arguments over the 3 permanent rivals would be massive. I'd prefer not to open that can of worms.

I'm not sure having a division with Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee all in it is a solution either. ADs would have that because by definition at least four of those five teams will lose the division every year.
The West would be much weaker with only LSU, maybe A&M, and Texas and/or Oklahoma.

I will add that I think the divisions are well balanced now. Each has three "bell cows", 2-3 teams that are capable of occasionally playing at a high level, and 1-2 that are traditionally weaker.

SC/Missouri - Occasional player (I realize SC has been awful the last 2.5 years)
Kentucky/Vandy - Weaker

While 1 great coach of long tenure can help to build a program's reputation, 1 weak coach usually isn't around enough to influence that reputation long enough to matter. Gus's inabilities are hardly representative of our program, but probably are reflective of a real putz for A.D.
Broyles helped to establish the reputation at Arkansas. The guy that followed Petrino (see I can't even think of his name right now) will not affect that. Some folks list us as a power and some as an up and down contender, but we do have 2 national championships officially, have been strong throughout our history, were coached by John Heisman and more than a few other names since, have a good winning percentage, and consistently finish in the top 10 in revenue. I'd say we were a power, but nobody is on Alabama's echelon today. At one time historically Tennessee was. But that was long long ago even before my time.
Back to this weekends slate, I have a feeling the Vols could get there doors blown off in Neyland. They've played a lot of intense football these past 3 weeks and might just be emotionally spent.
The Ole Miss/Arky tilt looks interesting. If Brett can't win this one I think the Hawgs end up ditching him next season.

I don't know if Vandy's win ensures job security. I do know Dawg fans might have a twinge of regret about dumping Richt just because he couldn't beat Saban. I'm not seeing the development from Eason that one would expect.

Eason is just a true freshmen so you have to take it easy on him. Absolutely agree on Smart, what a terrible move that was.
I think Mason absolutely gets another year. It's too bad they couldn't beat UK or SC, because they could have snuck into a bowl this year.
