We will be making the trip to Mobile in 2020. Would be a great time to take a beach trip and catch some football.
If there were ever a natural rival for us this is it. I'm sure this will be great for both schools
Does anyone else think that our OOC the next few years, especially in 2017, sets up nicely for a bowl bid(s)? In 2017 we have three very winnable OOC games. Pick up just three more the rest of the season and we have a solid chance for a bowl. Win 4 and we got it.

That was one of my biggest gripes with how UAB football used to set up OOC scheduling. I understand we collected some huge checks from the big boys, but starting off each season guaranteed 0-2 or 0-3 set us up for failure from the get go. I think wins are what will fire up the fan base and potential fan base. I don't think people will really care who we are beating at this point. We just need to go get some wins, some bowl bids, and get this program off with some positive momentum.
I am looking forward to playing USA but make no mistake, it will be a game of great significance for the status of our program's ranking among state FBS schools in Alabama. With their defeat of Miss State and then #19 San Diego State this season, much has changed since 2014 when UAB last took the field. By 2019 / 20, our programs could be looking across the field at each other as equals if both continue to grow to that date.

We rarely set up our schedule to be in that position. When we lost early in the year to Troy, that's when we had the awful 0fer starts normally.

I think I'd rather keep on playing Troy, although Mobile is a better venue for accomodations, eats, etc.
Clark is insisting on only one money game, one money game where we bring in someone to beat up and two home and homes to set us up for bowls. He and Ingram didn't see eye to eye on this and guess who won out.............?
I figured we get those dates to "renew" the series that FRW ended before it began. Torn allegiances here since I was one of the original members of the USA fb club & see it grow into what it has become & now a Blazer fan as well.

Give it a few years, we'll all be in the same conference anyway.

I feel about the same.

The non conference is softer, and the bottom of Conference USA could have a hard time with a stiff wind. I don't think we'll come out like gangbusters or anything, but I could see us flirting around five or six wins. I don't really expect to make a bowl game for the first couple of seasons, though.

I'll be shocked if we are.

I hope you are right. My fear is you are wrong though.
If the conferences realign, UAB will be a shining star.
Birmingham is located in center of southeast.
We have good airport and great university.
We are spending money "that was never there prior".
Football and other sports are feeling the effects of new money.
We are a "have" in a basket of deplorables.
The "have nots" will align after the "haves" align.
Can we get paid by a couple of not so good programs ?
Trade 1 Goliath for 2 Goliath lights?

It wouldn't be a bad thing IMO. It is time to make our CUSA turd a more productive turd. You know, like Matt Damon did in The Martian with the human feces that helped him grow those potatoes.
Clark and the foundation will move us forward.
We need to play teams that have common interest, within csr traveling distance for fans, and can grow together. If we can become dominant within that framework, we will get notice.

In an ideal world that would be the plan. This isn't an ideal world. Realignment isn't being driven by butts in the seats it's being driven by TV money, specifically TV football money. Right now we have a compelling story to sell the TV public and with the foundation money we have the means to be competitive in pretty much any conference that would take us. This set of circumstances won't come around again (hopefully) and the time is now to sell ourselves. It may not happen immediately but that ground work has got to be done
How many "experts" would have predicted that USA would defeat BOTH Miss State and #19 San Diego State to start this season? Due to the hurricane, USA's late season game with LSU is in doubt so LSU can make up their @ Florida game on 11/19.

Often scheduling is a crap shoot since it is usually done several years in advance. Right now UAB knows it will have many talented players for 2017, but we can only trust (as in BELIEF) that FBHC Clark and staff will come out with a winning TEAM. We won't know for sure until this time next year.

UAB will have much to prove to other conferences over the next 5 to 10 years as it develops its new facilities (we are finally off to a good start, but must keep it growing) and its record.
